This has been discussed a few times before around the impressions thread but I wanted to make a thread specifically for this so we can send it to the devs.

one word : unfair.

They should also implement that on the pc i hope if they release a patch it would include those nice shadows from the consoles

No DOF too or is it just turned off?
Fri Oct 08, 2010 10:35 am
I turned it off.

This makes me angry. They left the old menu.Didn't upgrade the graphics on PC.They said PC will be the same as consoles. They lied.

RAGE!
I WILL NOT GET THE GAME BECAUSE THERE ARE NO SHADOWZ! THE DEVELOPERS ARE LIARZ! THEY ARE LIKE EA! THEY ARE A SCUM TO THE UNIVERZE!

Did you change the config.cfg?

You can do it from the video settings. Actually it wasn't turned off. I just clicked the right stick in replay mode.

This is something I've noticed as well. Quite disappointing.
I did the "trick" of setting the PLAYERLOD in the config file to 3 but that doesn't bring in the shadows of the 360 version at all. Has anybody gotten word from 2k on this issue?
Sat Oct 09, 2010 4:04 am
Can we make 360 shadows on PC?
Sat Oct 09, 2010 5:56 am
lets go back a few years when EA was porting their ps2 versions of their crappy games, while xbox 360 and ps3 had nice shiny next gen HD titles. so i will grin and bear it.
maybe it is something that can be patched or modded but either way be greatful for what we get for 30 bucks less than the console kids get

. i do not think shadows are worth 30 bucks more, and being unable to mod the game at all.

I agree. Fucking PC crybabies.

Yo Pdub!
No way for a mod to behave.
I'm getting the feeling that the level of conversation has dropped of a cliff lately at the NLSC.
a damn shame really...
This, ZanShadöw's signature, Piston Honda's avatar.
I don't know, seems like instead of maturing this community is only growing increasingly juvenile, well I guess most level headed guys have fled to the overly moderated but kept in line pastures of the OS forums.
This makes sense, but as someone who has been around here from the jolly old days of tim and lutz this saddens me.
Oh well...

I'm not a mod. The level of conversation dropped off a long time ago. We make up for it by having fun. Also, It was meant more as a joke, because I am actually one of those "pc crybabies." Guess an emoticon would have made it stand out more.

In my point of view, it seems to be much more a matter of lightning effect difference between xbox 360 and pc than a missing shadow. If you look closely, the shadows are there, but, there is much more contrast on xbox version, and being pc version a port from xbox, that explains the black color to look gray, red look pink and so on... check out the arm and knee gears, black on xbox, gray on pc, even with no shadows on his arm, but lightning.
And being that a matter of lightning, it's possible that a "Enb series" directx dll could do the trick.

that might actually work, but it might kill game performance

I remember seeing Enb series for GTAIV a few weeks back...
How would I go about loading that into 2k11? Or does someone have to specifically code it into the game?

I kinda think thats why 2k never included it. For example, of course our computers could handle it but some one who could only play on medium setting wouldn't even get a chance to truly enjoy the game. Also, they could've included it as an option in the video settings, but as
Pdub said before, its only 30 dollars and the console version don't need a video settings. Maybe the new models were so demanding that they decided not to use them because raising the spec requirements would cost a drop in retail sales. And 2k is not going for that!
But the ENB Series is awesome, I honestly wasted money on buying all the NEXT GEN GTA titles because I never play them, but I think these guys are exceptional. We should try and get them over to this forum and take a look at this...

What.
Someone who can only play on medium or low currently isn't getting that chance. Under your logic it should not have any options to run it higher than 640x480 on low.
The PC version IS using the new models, look at the screens in the OP, it's just missing proper shadowing.

I was meaning on those who play on medium or lower now will not be able to enjoy the game because spec requirements will be risen. Actually the 2k10 & 2k11 models are the same as you can tell from early screenshots & the first trailer of 2k11. However, we want those new "SHADER" models. That really makes a HUGE difference in the realism.
I just really hope that ENB could or will be atleast interest in doing something with this game as they've done with horribly shaded games before like the one seen below:

How is this different from the current situation? If you don't meet the recommended specs you can't run it with everything on high already. It wouldn't change the minimum specs as that would remain as is.
For all we know the port is supposed to be displaying them and doesn't. Kinda like how the benchmark doesn't work at all in overriding the default.
