Talk about NBA 2K11 here.

Checked my order status on Amazon and it says the game shipped. Not sure if it shipped for delivery to me or shipped from Amazon's main warehouse.

Whatever the case, I'm gonna be taking a few days off next week!

I just heard some good news from Ronnie at 2k. Apparently some (not all) Wal-Marts will have the game and give out promotional posters and you can get it at MIDNIGHT from those stores. My suggestion is to quickly google your nearest Wal-Marts and call them see if they have it.

Anyway, this means you can play it come October 5th at MIDNIGHT rather than wait until the 10AM opening of Gamestop. I can get a 10 hour advantage for My Player! :D

Or I can hopefully buy it on Steam and not have to leave the house, let alone see the horrors of Midnight Wal-Mart. Image

I purchased 2K10 digitally but I'm planning to get the DVD version this year. My question to those who had the DVD version last year, is there a way for you to run the game without the DVD inserted? I mean, did the game had an option to authenticate using the DVD just once like the Digital Authentication of Bad Company 2.

And yeah, hopefully, the game won't allow pirated versions to play online.

I see. If you insert the DVD, is it affecting your PC's performance in running the game?

The only difference is with the DVD exe it just checks to see if the disc is there before starting. It doesn't take data off the drive while the game is playing which would affect performance.
Opinions are my own.

Oh great. I thought the DVD-ROM would be accessing the exe from the DVD while it is running. So that means, it's smarter to run a the DVD itself than mounting an ISO image cause the image mounting would utilize more memory, right?

Hey Dom -

I don't think it would matter if you leave the disc in the drive or mount an image of it. The only thing the protection would do is to verify the integrity of the disc (disc or mounted) to make sure its genuine. And as jao stated earlier, it usually does this at the beginning; although it may scan the disc every so often to verify the EXE again (not sure though). So either way, it takes up ZERO resources of memory use since youre just mounting it on a virtual drive.

Either way, I think you'll be fine.

I see. Thanks for your insights, guys. I think I'll have the DVD version this year. Hopefully, we (here in Philippines) get the same files as the North American version. It sucks to not have the alternate logos inside the three point area in some of the court floors.

It uses disk space, sure. But the DVD could break and then you'd be stuck.

Actually, GameStop is running a similar promotion as Walmart for the PC version. I pre-ordered it, and was told to come in at 12:00 midnight Tuesday to pick it up. Only certain GameStop's are featuring this, so you need to check first.

I found the PC version to be much better than the consoles. With the PC, if you have a potent system with the right processor, memory and video card, its truly gorgeous and the gameplay is no different.

Does that mean I won't be able to do isomotion moves with the keyboard this year? In 2k10, I could do isomotion moves by using different combinations of turbo, clutch and spin buttons. Would it mean that I must buy a 360 controller to execute isomotion moves?

I don't know why you wouldn't play with a controller anyway. It makes the game much easier to play.

That' why I've always bought from online retailers like Amazon, Newegg or Gogamer. Since these retailers 'promise' to deliver the game on the release date, they'll often ship the game days before to ensure you get it on that specific day. I've received Halo Reach and Starcraft 2 days before the official release dates when ordering from them. Checking my order from Amazon, it looks like I'll be receiving the game tomorrow via UPS ground (estimated time between 11am - 2pm PST). Hopefully It'll be sitting on my porch when I get back from work tomorrow. :D

Well... the GameStop I went to in the Detroit area, said I could come in at 12:00 midnight Oct 5 to pick it up. I guess it depends on which stores had enough pre-orders.
