Hi I'm A Noob That Is Interested In Modding (Please Help)

Thu Jun 16, 2011 9:32 pm

I would like to know what software I will need to be able to put myself in the game and customize things such as tattoos, hairstyles, shoes, uniforms etc. As of yesterday I downloaded programs FaceGen Modeller and Blender but I am not sure if they can be used or have anything to do with me putting myself in 2K11. I saw some clips on youtube yesterday where people have done it and had a passion for it when i seen the results, even ordered a pc copy from ebay yesterday.

If there's a topic already on this subject i apologize because i did search for this but may have overlooked. My inspiration of wanting to do this came from the following:

go heels lol

I think you'll need NBA 2K9 IFF Editor Beta9, Nba2KX_ModTool, REDitor II (all of which+their tutorials can be found in this site) and a graphic editing program such as Photoshop/GIMP. That's for the texture modding. If you want to put your face in the game, you can: look for a player in-game with a head/faceshape similar to yours and edit its face texture (what I do), or edit an existing player's headshape (I don't know anything about the 3-D model modding 'cause I've no idea how to use Blender and the import/exporting to NBA2k11's file system). Good luck!

yeah this site seems rather harsh with help. would you happen to have nba mod tool version 0.15?

cause the one i searched for on this site has the link for version 0.15 but when you click it, it's really 0.161

Uh, no, I've the 0.161 one. what's the difference between that and the 0.15? shouldn't the newer one be better?

I'm sorry you feel that way, as it certainly isn't our intention in this community. There isn't any malicious or elitist intent here though, part of the problem is that not everyone is online at the same time or has the same knowledge, so threads do get overlooked or the people looking in might not be able to help.

If you're looking to get into patching NBA 2K11, really the best place to start is the Tutorials section. We leave the threads there open so that people can reply with follow-up questions if they need additional pointers or something is unclear. The reason we have the Tutorials of course is so that we don't have to type up guides and info every time someone asks how to do this or that; quite often we'll post a link to a resource when a question is asked but as I said, unfortunately threads can get overlooked.

I'm afraid I can't offer you any help personally as I'm not really invovled with the 2K patching community at present, but hopefully Tutorials will be able to give you some useful info and perhaps one of the other team members or patchmakers in the community will be able to offer you some assistance when they get a moment. You might want to introduce yourself to some of the prominent people in the releases section and shoot them a private message, to see if one of them is able to give you some pointers. But definitely give those Tutorials a look. Good luck! :)

Thanks Andrew, I have been in the tutorials section but there's really no clear explanations/tutorials on creating custom cyberfaces. All videos on youtube have foreigners explaining how to do this and unfortunately i don't comprehend their languages. The tutorial section shows how to assign cyberfaces by ID, but there's nothing on how to create them from scratch with the recommended software such as iff editor, mod tool, adobe photoshop, blender and 3ds max. I think the problem is the ones that are very skilled with this get annoyed with how many people ask/request this from them, which i understand in a way cause its only so much you can explain in text.

However if there was a video tutorial in all English then that would help, "handlez362" and "ily94" told me to use the programs i stated above but a video tutorial in English would be the best help that most of us noobs could get.

The NBA 2K10 Tutorials section has some handy resources as well, I believe most of the info is still relevant for NBA 2K11. There's a video tutorial here:
viewtopic.php?f=118&t=70859

It isn't in English but it might still be helpful. Opening up the link in that thread, I also found these on YouTube:

Hope it helps!
