Complete Modding noob, help!

I'm kinda confused as to what a "global" is. I did notice that most of the shadow mods that I've downloaded are named global, so is that what it means? And I've seen people ask to add a texture or something to the global. Also, how come every thread I go to for mods, the modder says to go to the front page for the link but then first post is empty? Basically I'm real confused by the terminology lol.

the file global.iff controls a lot of different things, so its a popular file to mod

the people with a blank first post left this website in a hissy fit. So they deleted their own first post

So how do I keep a certain shadow mod, but add accessories and other textures included in a global without changing the shadow mod.

Also what about reflection effects on floors? I downloaded a reflection effect but it replaced the whole floors altogether.

And while I'm here, anyone wanna suggest some good complete jersey and/or floor packs. I downloaded this one: viewtopic.php?f=136&t=77499 but I was wondering if there were any better out there.

everything else you will need to search for

look in the tutorials section for information on the mod tool. you need that to make custom files by importing and exporting textures from one global to another
