Your V-card and/or Processor might be quite outdated, probably bought 4+ years ago which couldn't handle the game's max graphic settings quite well.

Solution Buy new hardwares

Of course your fps is going to be down when you set a higher detail...
Of course if you listed your system specs maybe, just maybe, people here in the forums may determine what's happening to you as a bug/glitch or your videocard just can't handle it.

my specs:

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
2.0 GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate
GeForce 8800 GTS 512

i had the same problem with 2k10, my processor can't handle the 'moving clothes' it seems. or is it a bug?

that's what you expect, but a drop of 30 fps? all the other detail settings don't seem to make a significant difference to the performance (stadium, crowd - maybe 5 more/less fps), but the player details are killing it.

By your specs

Seems to me I guessed right :D

4 year tech kinda fades fast your v-card kinda slowing down for the current gen games

Try sticking with medium if you lack the cash for the moment

But Try upgrading your Vcard 1st (priority), probably go AMD/ (former)ATI since it's much cheaper they'll have new model to be released anyway at December, the 6000 series

Processor, I dont know much bout AMD sorry cant help you there

At high player detail, there are sweat to be rendered. Now multiply that by 10 because of players on the court. Say we assume a drop of 2-3 fps for one player (because sweat isn't static like the stadium detail), multiply that by 10 will result in a drop of 20-30 fps. Not that far off from what's happening to you really. Not to mention the other details that gets added in high player detail. I think the cloth movement of the jerseys are mostly handled by the CPU and not GPU.

sweat is the same on middle and high. i made screenshots and compared them. the only difference are clothes. on 'high', they're moving, on middle not. that's it. it doesn't bother me much to play without the moving clothes, so it's not a big deal. but at first i thought it was a bug because a drop of 30 fps seemed a bit much to me.

I think the sweat is static on medium player detail?

Zan is correct and with your comparison that sweat is the same

Since Cloths of NBA 2k11 are scripted CPU is your problem then
