Has Anyone played FIFA 14 Next Gen? NBA Live 14 related!!

Postby ThaLiveKing on Wed Dec 11, 2013 8:43 am

I been playing FIFA 14 on the Xbox One consistently, and I'm wondering how the FIFA Dev team can get the controls so precise, than the NBA Live controls. I'm not sure how Madden's game play is, but FIFA's control is really responsive and it makes the game play a whole lot of fun!!

Also players don't feel as heavy/ stiff in FIFA 14 compared to Live 14 as well. If that's the way NBA Live's game play is supposed to be in this Ignite engine then I really believe this game could be great next year if they figure out the tech

Good news for the IGNITE engine then, as it suggests that NBA Live just needs more polish to fully take advantage of it. Considering that there are moments in NBA Live 14 where you do see those "flashes of brilliance" that some of the previews were talking about, moments where everything seems to work as intended, I don't think they need to scrap the engine and start over (especially since that's what's caused them so many setbacks in the first place). There's just more work to be done; I'm interested to see just how much they'll be able to accomplish with the forthcoming patches.

Yeah, the balance between speed and momentum in Fifa is almost flawless for its game play!!

they feel a lot better in Fifa because Fifa players they're not jumping up and down, one of the biggest flaws if not the biggest in Live 14's player physics is the SLINGSHOT jumps.... I have players exploding/slingshotting off the floor like they were playing on another planet with a different gravity..... they absolutely have no concept of momentum the guys who made Live 14, the dunks alone are horrible and feel hella awkward...

I actually went back yesterday and dusted off my PS3 and played both the Live 10 demo.... to this day, Live 10's player's on that practice gym arena have the most fluid movements, jumps, dunks and dribble moves, even better than 2K14... also tried out the Elite 11 demo I still had on there, heh heh, no comment (14 is Elite 11 in 1080p)

I can't wrap my head around what EA accomplished with a few years of work, Live 14 is horrible in every single aspect, only the menu systems and soundtrack are better..... no amount of polish can even get this game to a respectable level for simulation gamers, even my little 11 year old bro didn't wanna play the game after 1 quarter complaining how horrible it was... the fact that it looks like shiet and they still can't figure out how to make it run at a consistent 60 frames a second on the PS4, that left me speechless all the framerate drops

A lot of Live's problems come from stupid animations they should never had added.

Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to turn to catch a pass and jump like a show horse every second animation?

If any is like me and has played every NBA game ever released, you'd remember back to some of the old Live's.

Remember the Megadrive/Genesis versions where they had the comedic animations when getting up from being knocked down and shaking their head?

Remember (06 I think it was) the jokes before the tip off where the players would hide the ball from the ref or tap them on the shoulder and look away?

Live simply doesn't take itself seriously enough and there are still to this day in Live 14, some of those stupid animations.

With regards to Fifa and the movement feeling better, yes it does. And to me it's a lot of these stupid in between animations that ruin that flow in Live.

Plus, EA animation devs seem to be fixated for some reason on adding hand drawn/edited animations into their bball games. For some stupid reason they take the original motion capture data and drag and edit frames to either suit what they think is better or to help them with transition animations. To me, it just ruins the realistic look.

I'd also bet my house that the players they mo-capped for layups and dunks were not using real balls and real height baskets. Some of the dunks have the player trying to adjust to being too high and the layups are obviously captured with a tennis ball or something.

Also, to the above post from ChrisCP3Paul, you can't judge the game on the demo. There actually is a heap of good stuff in this game (many better than next gen 2K). But EA need some intelligent gamers like myself testing and giving feedback before releasing Live 15.

It wasn't a few years of work on Live 14. It has remnants of older resources probably dating back to Live 10, but when you change studios once, change developers twice, change to a new platform, there are going to be major issues. I can understand your comparison to Elite 11, because there are many animations that remind me of Elite 11, even if they may or may have not been in that game.

I also didn't want to play the game after 1 quarter. I think I have played about 50 games now, and it gets better once you learn the controls, but by no means will I continue playing it for the year in it's current state.

Phreak I bought the game few days before release day, so the demo wasn't out yet.. If it had been, I would have downloaded it and yes actually this IS a game you can judge from a minute of play a full quarter isn't even necessary.... Would have never bought it if I knew it was a recycled piece of turd that was Elite 11...

Pdub, what you're saying is true I know.... It's the reason but its no excuse for what they've done.... I had no idea they would even have the balls to release a polished Elite 11 .... I mean we were all expecting next gen engine, etc.... And we got this..... damn, EA truly deserves the title of Americas worst company to work for, they're defending champs, have won it 2 years in a row now, goin hard for that 3 peat

Sorry but you lose all credibility when you say you can judge this game (or ANY game) from a minute of playing. That's just laughable.

To cut and paste what I wrote in the impressions thread comparing both next gen titles after extensive play:

- CPU calls and runs better plays (when it hasn't decided to just hold the ball in the one position for 24 seconds or spin baseline from the post) in Live
- Dribbling animations are better in Live
- Dribbling controls are MUCH better in Live
- Much smoother and more responsive (and fun) to shoot jumpers in Live
- Less annoying commentary (not necessarily better but way less scripted, over-repeated stories, something 2K annoys the hell out of me with)
- Calling a screen, having the screener actually affect the defender he makes contact with and also giving you the option to go left, right or pull up depending on how the D reacts is 10x better in Live
- Net graphics and physics look better in Live
- Tattoo textures much better in Live
- Funnily enough for an EA game, MUCH less bugs and crashes than 2K lol

To me, something as minor (in the whole aspect of gameplay) as dribbling animations means when I turn on 2K14 now I find it hard to continue playing with all the ball warping from dribbling. Seriously, while 'bouncetek' is a stupid name and not perfect, it is the most impressive single feature I've seen in a bball in a long time. The way the ball (almost) never misses a frame, the way the players feet move, the transitions from dribbling to shooting. It's a pity there is so much crap in this game because a lot of the good stuff gets easily overlooked.

I still have the Elite demo by the way and Live 14 is a million times better.

^ you serious dude? I lose all credibility for echoing the sentiments of basically 90% of the basketball gaming community when I say this game is garbage... Okkkk then....

I'm not gonna get in some long reply and discussion with you and try to disprove the points you brought up, I don't need too, everyone's already done that since the game released.
I'm glad you like it though, I think EA was hoping there would be more guys like you out there, casual gamers who wanted that throwback Live feeling..... Sorry though, but its 2014 and we don't wanna SKATE from spot to spot on the basketball floor anymore, we should have a next gen engine both physics and graphics, we shouldn't have plastic looking players that look like dolls, and why the hell am I seeing massive lag and frame rate drops on a powerful machine like the PS4, especially when the game looks like an solute shirt not like its some graphically intense game or something.....

If a new dribbling system and a nice lookin net is enough for you then I'm happy for you dude.

Your join date combined with your enthusiasm for this turd that is Live 14 is dubious at best broski, you on that EA payroll bruh? :cheeky:

Oh also. You just lost your house in that mocap bet, a teammate and friend of mine has been used for years at the Burnaby EA studio for their motion capture. He was on the And 1 circuit... they use real balls and regulation height nets, I've been to the studio as recently as a few months ago myself...

Just further proof they have no idea what they're doing unless the Florida studio that made this years game does it completely differently

I would agree that 90% of the basketball gaming community hasn't played the game for more than a couple minutes of playing though.

Everyone I have seen, here and on OS, that has spent an extended amount of time playing the game sees the positives. We all know about the glitches, we all know about the animation quality and overall graphical quality, but the game plays good probably 95% of the time. No one is saying it is a better package than 2K, no one is claiming Live 14 is the best basketball game game, or even anything more than a mediocre release. But the thing is fun, plays good basketball, and is far better than a "recycled piece of turd that was Elite 11".
Opinions are my own.

the use of turd in this forum so far is astounding... and its only been used twice... that's like, 2 more times then it should have been used. anyways my thought on it is, as a 2k fan who grew up only playing nba live, this game is not the turd that was elite 11. People act like 2k are they who have not sinned, so i think people are forgetting that THEY RELEASED THE SAME GAME 3 YEARS IN A ROW! I mean they didn't have competition so they did what they wanted. But i feel that now that live is back, they dont have a choice but to keep trying to make there game better. My thoughts on nba live so far though is that there are a lot of things that can be fixed. Im not very worried about the graphics Right now though because i heard that that wasnt really a main focus this year. But it really needs a major tune-up next year. so things can only get better from here whether you think the game is crappy or not. not trying to hate on 2k. just keeping it real my homie g dawgs :cheeky:.

Wow Jao I had no idea you were positive about the game, this is the first thing I've ever ready you write on here I have to disagree with....

Anyway we all have our opinions that's normal, I'm not trying to force mine onto anybody just because the overwhelming majority of people have come to the same conclusion as I have, I'm not a turd like that :cheeky:

But for real though, my view on Live 14 would have been a lot more positive and hopeful if they had at least come with a fresh new engine for next gen.... That's the one thing that literally insults our intelligence, the fact that they plan on recycling the same trademarket ICE SKATE engine they've been using since PS2/Xbox....
That is the reason why I absolutely positively have no hope whatsoever for the future of this franchise, at least on this console cycle.
There is no way they can improve the game further as long as they're using it, it was at its limitations even on the last console cycle, so the fact you guys remain hopeful for next year or anything for this console cycle I'm really very surprised... The fact alone that they can't run it at a consistent 60 fps with constant frame rate drops should be a big hint to the rest of us
