same. IGN's review is nothing but laughable. The end of the video review was especially cringe-worthy, "If you weren't sure of your purchasing decision...." Then shows the
user dribbling in place, making dumb passes, then purposely getting a shot clock violation.

I agree IGN reviews are a joke but I will say Live looks like basketball underwater. Sooooo slow.

The game has improved a bit since the patch.

Could you be more specific?
- Players jump more straight up when going for rebounds
- The shots don't look so stiff
- Collision detection is slighter better (still needs major work)
- Commentary is a bit more precise, but still a bit choppy
It was just a few minor things.

I think its a completely fair review, it is not a good game AT ALL when compared to 2K14. If you prefer the gameplay style over 2K, thats a valid opinion but it is still a terrible game when compared to the current benchmark. Really disappointing, I was hoping they would put up a contender this year.
Wed Nov 20, 2013 9:30 am
like I said in my other thread i been playing it all day yesterday and today, gameplay is slightly better than Live 10, they didn't build it from the ground up and they've had years to do it... this blows my mind and it's a slap to the face to all of us
player models look like Fifa players from xbox 360 and PS3, painted plastic, and they got that same eerie glow halo effect on their hair like they did in Live which just tells you the whole truth behind this game and where it comes from, ALSO FRAMERATE DROPS WHEN YOU'RE ABLE TO SEE THE WHOLE ARENA CERTAIN CAMERA ANGLES PROVES THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY'RE DOING.... if you can't optimize a game on powerhouse like the PS4 or xOne... you should be out of business period
don't even compare it to 2K, because its not a good game period, unless youre a pre teen... commentary literally sounds lifted from NBA JAM... just an example of the cheesiness there, guy often says "OH GOES TO THE GOAL" goes to the GOAL? the fuckin GOAL ?? who the fuck....
this is a re-polished Live 10 with a whole bunch of cool features added in, I LOVE the features... everything ABSOLUTELY everything else about the game is an insult to our intelligence and manhood, yea I said it

It is a terrible game indeed. However, let's not forget that this is only the first release after a break.

BShadows is the truth when speaking about the demise of the franchise.
I never post on these boards but check the site daily and read through forums concerning LIVE and 2K daily as well.
Comparing the game to 2k14 shouldn't even be brought up. How does the game compare to its last release in Fall 2009?
I challenge anyone who defends this as being next gen to play Live 10 or just watch cpu v cpu. It's not even close to the quality visuals and gameplay that was present in 10.
This release is a polished version of the NBA Live 13 disaster that was almost released a year ago, that's it. They tuned the animations from that terrible MIA v OKC leaked footage and completely integrated the ESPN branding they'd been promising for the last 3 years.
Live 10 would score higher than this if it had been released yesterday.
The 4.3 score has been earned. You can't keep burning consumers and media with buzzwords and empty promises.

unless they have an exclusive license. then EA can treat the customers however they want

The gist of the game has already been given, but at least Gamespot was intelligent in their analysis of it.

To be fair I think the argument as to this being a new entry after a break isn't valid at all. These developers have had years... not months, not days, years to produce a decent product. Are we to suddenly believe this is EA's first time at making a hoops game? Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't EA create NBA games before 2k even existed? I mean live is not a new basketball IP by any stretch. The excuse that they are just starting out is bogus at best. I mean seriously, I'm in the graphic arts profession and if you gave me years to work on a project you better believe it better be some of the best stuff I've ever created.
The world functions on deadlines and time management gents. So the true question here would be what happened with their time management? So to say oh this is their first game back after a break is nonsense, there was no break. Supposedly these developers were working on this game during this so called break which is why they kept postponing a release. In fact did they not pull the game a couple times because of being unsatisfied with the state of the products development?
Don't get me wrong, I wanted the game to succeed like any fan of the live series from back in the good ole days but this is inexcusable. If anything, with the time they were given the game should have been a showcase of innovation and creativity. At some point you have to accept that this game is what it is, a lazy attempt to re-enter a market that EA helped to establish to begin with. Shame on them. Don't kid yourself, some bigwigs at EA will not be very happy with this. I'm fairly certain they don't like losing money and its games like this that can cost jobs.

It hasn't been communicated very well, but they actually haven't had four years to develop the game, with the transfer of development to Tiburon and a few changes in the team. Scott talks about that in the interview we did with him earlier this week; it wasn't a four year development cycle as is often assumed. That doesn't mean that the game isn't above criticism of course, but a misconception that EA themselves probably could've done a better job of clearing up.
Fri Nov 22, 2013 11:27 am
It's clearly understood that they didn't have four years to work on any specific title but they've had four years to put out a quality title.
They've continued to stub their toe, break their foot, and now break their leg. These weren't accidents, they're self inflicted injuries. EA Sports and the development teams that have worked on the failed titles misled and mismanaged the series. Poor design, planning, execution, and messaging has led them to their earned ridicule.
If you do enough searching you'll find that EA Sports has been working on an an NBA series title for the last 4 years.
There are at least two credible outlets, Pastapadre (Bryan Wiedey) and Kotakus-Owen Good who have covered the failings in the recent years.
Nobody who plays or purchases COD, FIFA or Madden annually would stand for this ineptitude.
Elite 11...basically recalled shipped games
Elite 12/NBA Live 12...nothing, but Peter Moore quoted as saying there was an up and running build
Live 13...xbox live/psn only download that was cancelled when the horrid game video leaked (majornelson basically confirmed that what we saw was what we were getting)
Live 14...polished version of Live 13 that they hid until release
EA Sports has gotten off easy in all this. Luckily for them basketball doesn't drive sports gaming like both futbol and football!

The assumption that the same team has been working on one specific title for the past four years still seems rather prevalent though. The reality of the situation is worth noting in any critique of the game because the issues you mentioned are obviously major contributing factors, though naturally that doesn't (and shouldn't) dismiss criticism of the product that's been put out there.
Fri Nov 22, 2013 12:41 pm
Just to be clear; EA, the publisher has had 4 years to get the personnel, ideas, and plan together to get the game right and out the door. The current development crew at EA Tiburon has had 1 year. Does that seem about right? If so, ok. Scott, Sean O'Brien and pretty much the entire EA Tiburon crew working on Live gets a pass in my book. EA Corp HQ does not. There is no excuse for their poor decision making in the past, let's just hope they've learned and let the crew at Tiburon have creative control over the project.

Fair enough but consider what you're saying here. So in essence the excuse I guess you would call it is that since they were in transition between developement teams it took the past 4 years to settle with one? And... in doing so they let that chosen team slap together a subpar product just to get something out the door? Then what message is that sending to us the consumers? PR spins are what they are, been there done that. But to say that it took 4 years to settle on one developement team just to come up with this travesty is a slap in the face to anyone who supports their products. 4 years is 4 years, no matter how you slice it. They had that time to get their house in order and deliver a quality product to their fans. Hell, I'd rather they took another couple years to get it right if that were the case.
Don't kid yourself, you could talk to the CEOs, the dev team lead, anyone at the top of the pyramid at EA and it will always be PR spinning FTW. You really think they're going to talk to you and honestly say "Oh yeah, our dev team really had no idea how to approach this thing considering what we're up against (NBA 2k) So they just decided to throw this hot mess out there because of the heat we were catching from the brass". Sorry but anyone who knows marketing will tell you PR spinning is the norm in cases like this. They won't publicly throw people under the bus but make no mistake, someone's ass has been chewed and handed to them for this debacle. Again, as much as EA loves money don't think for a second they are patting the devs on the back saying, we'll get um next year, or the year after that, or the year after that.... Time is money, the more time you take to make a subpar sloppy piece of crap product, the less time it will take for you to lose your job. Again, I have been a live fan but this is unacceptable and inexcusable period.

It's mismanagement, no question about it. I'd agree with how JBulls summed up the situation.
