Joystiq Article on the PC Patch

Many PC players of NBA 2K10 are reportedly having serious issues with the game's online functionality. While the degree of difficulty appears to vary from player to player, there are some pretty epic threads of woe being sewn on the 2K Sports and Steam forums regarding the game.

As one tipster explains to Joystiq: "Online support has been basically non-existent, despite it being clearly advertised by 2K. To be clear, when I say 'non-existent,' I mean 'non-existent.' This isn't an issue of slightly laggy gameplay, or anything like that. The lobbies in the game are completely non-functional, and it doesn't even seem possible to connect to other players."

When contacted, 2K Sports told Joystiq that a patch is "currently being worked on, and in the testing phase. It will be released as soon as it is ready." That's probably of little consolation to office chair athletes left playing a pick-up game by themselves, as this patch has apparently been in the works for months. On the bright side, considering NBA 2K is an annual franchise, maybe the next installment won't have the same problems?
Opinions are my own.

I don't like this. I just hope that the negative publicity doesn't influence them to abandon the PC platform. They should just let people run there own dedicated servers next year.

I'm in the same boat man, while I want the PC patch to come out I don't want the PC versions of sports games to become a huge liability when it comes to publicity.

That's why I just enjoy the 2kshare/Highlight Uploading/NBA Today modes and then myself of NBA Live 2003-08 and 2k9's awesome online modes.

I was thinking of getting 2k10 recently, do you guys think it's worth it? I've been hearing about all of these online problems, but I've never really played basketball games online.

I don't play sports games online due to the exploits. We get daily Living Roster updates, weekly official 2k share rosters along with the full 2k share capabilities and the NBA Today mode working. As long as you don't care about playing anything human v human or pick up/team up games then it is well worth the 20 bucks

Is the living roster thing like that EA 365 or dynamic DNA (or whatever it's called) thing that Live 10 has, where it automatically updates the rosters based on what's going on in the real world?

I hope 2k realizes that working online play is one of the best ways to deter piracy. since most pirated games dont offer working online play, and 2k can easily weed out the fake keys from the original, multiplayer is a huge buying point for those who are considering pirated copies of the game. case in point, modern warfare 2.
