Jersey Question

I am having trouble adding some jerseys to the game, such as Pepis21's Jazz HWC green jersey and the Portland Rip City jersey. Are jerseys tied to specific rosters? Is there some hex editing involved with the jersey IFF file? I'd like to start making my own jerseys. I see most patchers have replaced the default jerseys. For example is it possible to add a Minneapolis Lakers jersey for L.A.? I am new to patching NBA2K but I've patched the NBA Live series and understand the DBF, hex and graphic editing. I could find nothing while searching the forums.
