Graphics card advice for nba 2k10

Postby simgame on Tue Oct 20, 2009 2:37 am

Hey guys I am having some terrible framerate issues on high player detail, and some graphical glitches when I play with graphics for player set to medium, all else is set to high and is fine

I have hp compaq dx2300 microtower, intel 2160@1.80 ghz, 3.00 gb ram, nvidia geforce 8600 gt with, windows xp service pack 3 .

I am trying to determine if changing video cards is going to eliminate the lage on high player settings, or is the cpu the problem.

I am wondering if this card will solve my problem, xfx geforce 9500 gt, 512 mb ram ddr3, pcis exp 2.0, for 69.00?
Also another option would be zotac geforce 9600 gt 1024 mb ddr3, pci exp 2.0, for 99.99?

Any thoughts or help appreciated

upgrade the cpu to at least a 2.6 ghz
The best performance is to run at 3 ghz or higher

if you are willing to shell out the extra money for the 9600GT then i suggest you get it over the 9500GT, the difference between the 2 cards is big..the 9500GT is just slightly better than the 8600GT

Yeah I have found some even better deals than my first post. I am now leaning to the 9800gt, 512mb ram ddr3, pcie 2.0 for 99.99, but am uncertain what I am going to do , because I am not sure if the card is going to solve my problem, if it is my intel2160 1.8ghyz can that be changed. Sorry if thats a dumb question, but I really dont know, would the motherboard need to be changed?

there could be a bottleneck because of your processor but im not sure if its significant.

an important question is..what is your PSU?..

I get 35-45fps average which is enough using MSI 9600gt, pretty much the same, this is with core duo 2.9ghz and 2gb ram

I got a month old 9600GT, but after trying out the NBA 2k10 I decided to upgrade it with the new HD4770 gddr5. I'm having a decent fps with all the settings maxed out.. Almost the same price as 9800GT but much more powerful because of the ddr5 and directx 10.1 technology... kaya mag hd4770 ka na! :D

35-45 fps average AINT enough.. Game needs @ least 60 fps to V-sync with our LCD monitors (60Hz) for the best result and flow of the game.
I got a 9600GT and athlon x2 6000 (3gz) and i have to play @ low details in order to get the desired 60. However, ill get a 4890 soon and problem
will be solved.

Im not sure about 2k10 but i played lots of games below 60fps and usually at 30-40 its ok as long as the frame rates are stable..

case in point

nba 2k9/2k10 feels smooth at 60 constant (vsync on of course) versus having vsync off and then running NBA 2k9/2k10 in the 90+fps but has occassional drops to 60-70fps..

try with vsync on if you have a good card for 2k10, vsync i think caps your fps not only to the highest refresh rate of your monitor but also on certain fps levels..ie it will try to keep you on 60fps then if your card cannot run at steady 60 then it will cap you to a lower fps where you can run it stable.. (im not sure though as i have no other cards to test)

How much is it? I currently have a hd4670 512mb ddr3 and my PSU is a HEC 480watts I wonder if this would be enough if I buy a 4770?

I went to best buy and picked up a 9800 geforce gt card 512mb ram ddr3, as opposed to my 8600 gt 1 gig of ddr2 ram, and there was no change whatsoever, I can play the game fine with everything but player maxed. If i try on ultra high on the 8600 gt the fps was about 9 fps, on the 9800 gt it was 13 fps, either way unplayable. Guess my intel dual core @ 1.9 ghz is screwing me, any thoughts?

Electricity doesn't care if runs through a high priced unit or not.

The only thing quality affects is if the PSU will easily break down or not. The PSU could break down and not provide enough power or at worst damage the hardware involved but that's pretty obvious to notice if he knows how to troubleshoot. Still, quality doesn't affect how the PSU provides power, only the possibility of conking out.

Seeing that you are very smart to have posted all that I think you know that when a PSU breaks, it usually damages other components as well right?

the point why I was asking for the brand was that some no brand PSUs dont really provide the wattage as they advertise..so advertise a high wattage but when you look at the rating, the 12V amperage is low (which isnt good as most PC components nowadays draw power from the 12v rail)
Id rather have a good 450W PSU than a generic 650W one..

So yes, quality of PSU is very important..
