Talk about NBA 2K10 here.
Thu Oct 08, 2009 2:06 pm
Don't see a thread for this, so here it is. For the people who have 2K10, myself included, post what you think of it so far.
I love it personally. The graphics, at least from a distance, look fantastic - and greatly improved over 2k9. The ability to download draft classes, along with the new rating scale are things I have been calling for for years and make me extremely happy. Haven't spent much time in Association or My Player, but I'm very curious to see how the sim engine is this year. Some of the ratings are off, but nothing that can't be fixed.

Do the horrible missed layups still happen? Is it possible to have the draft classes uploaded here like roster patches?
I've also heard of the spin move (with the triangle button) ending a travel or turnover?
Thu Oct 08, 2009 2:25 pm
How about the trade logic?
Fri Oct 09, 2009 8:47 am
Null17, So far, I haven't noticed any bad missed layups. The triangle button does a pro-hop (though its called something different) which can result in a travel. Its a good post move at times though.
christian., No improvement, but with the ability to control all 30 teams, its as easy as ever to make them yourself.

Can you control all 30 teams and change it to just 1 controlled team when you want to?
EDIT: Question still stands for Lamrock to answer

There's already a thread for the PC so we'll use this one for consoles.

Good idea Jae. No, there doesn't seem to be a way to deactivate a player. The number of user-controlled teams is set from the beginning of the game. I guess that makes it kind of pointless in regards to league customization. You can still do what i did for 2K9 and turn trade override on then just insert yourself into a three team trade, swapping second rounders with one of the teams. (Then swapping picks back afterwards)

Very nice. I'll have to use this tactic to prevent bad logic (overloading of positions mainly). I'll allow bad trades because they happen IRL, but I can't stand for 3 starting PG's all on the one team

Yeah, its definitely the way to go. One of the things that has really disappointed me is the collision detection. I hate when I try to get a screenshot of a dunk, and the player and net animations are completely out of sync. Slowdown has also happened occasionally. Hopefully there is a patch for that.
Sat Oct 10, 2009 5:42 am
for the net just rewind a bunch before the dunk, the physics for the net are "live" in replay mode so it needs to reset.

Whoa that changes things a lot. Thanks Jao!

I was extremely lucky in getting my copy of 2k10 on xbox. i was at JB Hi-Fi and found that 2K10 were all sold out on the 9th here in Australia so I told the guy I want to preorder for the next set of 2k10s in, which was next week. At the counter I saw 1 copy of 2k10 on xbox and i asked whats with this one. The dude told me it was preorderd by someone. After a couple of minutes the guy came back and said no name was left for the person who preorderd the game and told me to just tell the cashier person that it was actually me who ordered the game haha.
So thats my story of being lucky and getting my copy of the game.
just want to mention a few things about the game after playing 4 games and drills and 1 game in My Player mode.
Thumsb Up
- great graphics
- improved defense mechanic (computer assists your defensive player to mirror the offensive player if the player you're controlling has high defensive ratings i beleive)
- Exciting draft board when entering My Player mode with an existing created player (I watched and waited till 2nd round 7th pick, I got drafted to the spurs!)
- No longer a block fest
- Relevant commentary - Commentary about upcoming preseason games
- Missed dunks when defensive players clog the paint
- Post play (Im still learning different moves in practice mode)
- Poor post players (ie. Dalembert) will not be able to score in the paint at will
Thumbs Down
- Framerate problem/ lag (it happened really often during NBA Today games but didnt occur in My Player games)
- Defensive AI on player controlled team leaves their defensive assignments regularly => computer AI knocks down open J's all game long
- Alleyoops happen too often by AI (3-5 times a game in 5 minute quarter games i played)
- Dominant post players (ie. Al Jefferson, Gasol) will destroy you in the paint and barely miss
Thats all I could think of at the moment. The biggest issues are the framerate lag problem and excessive alleyoops. I hope like EA, 2ksports will have somebody make a patch to fix these things
Sun Oct 11, 2009 9:59 am
With regards to the dominant players. Would adjusting the sliders solve this problem?
Sun Oct 11, 2009 10:42 am
Positives
-as said graphics are great, much improved court textures for PS3, better player facial animations, and noticably more accurate arena designs as well as better overall character models make this a great looking sports game.
-more movement on offense (AI)
-IN GAME FREAKIN SAVES honestly how long have we asked for this?
-pretty sick song list if I do say, much diggin the beats
-good blocking animations
-presentation all around is great, pre and post game reactions, highlights, commentating, just fabulous
-great atmosphere and crowd reaction during gameplay, surround sound is great for this game
-much needed menu revamp
-
Negatives
-can't change my player mode quarter lengths, most annoying thing as of now for me, totally killed the game. I don't even want to play in the NBA cause of it.
-too many alley-oops. Though I haven't played with sliders or played many games ( mostly my player as of now)
-stupid substitution during my player, I'll literally be put on he court ten seconds, then taken off on a player just to be put back on 30 seconds later, it gets fuckin annoying.
-got no in game music or in custom arena music for ps3, (even though I noticed it says it does have custom arena music in the menu) when you go over features or options of w.e.)
-still awful passing
-alot of randomly missed close range shots
thats all i can think of for now, mostly pissed at my player mode. i like draft combine and was really looking forward to it, now i'm sick of it already
Sun Oct 11, 2009 4:49 pm
I havent tried changing the sliders yet because I wanted to see if it was my problem on defense. I'll play for another week before I touch the sliders but tuning down the close range shooting sliders would probably fix the dominance of inside players
Sun Oct 11, 2009 5:10 pm
I'm getting the hang of the game a little more now. Been feeling it a lot more than 2K9. Still want to change the sliders. Right now Noah and Salmons have been superstars and Rose has been trash.

its my first time playing nba 2k10 on xbox 360, and it seems the PC version's graphics looks better. or its just because of the monitor im using?, cause im not using LCD monitor.

A few things just from quick game with Hornets against Blazers:
Positives:
- Low post game is a lot better
- Brandon Roy wasn't just scoring, but he was setting people up
- LaMarcus Aldridge spotting up
- Didn't notice any dodgy goaltending calls (yet)
- Didn't notice any framerate issues (yet for PS3)
- In Game Saves
- Better graphics
- Better presentation & commentary
- CPU teams seem to play like themselves but also take what they can get
Negative:
- Still seems a little too easy to score inside (slider adjustments will help this I guess)
- Controls feel a bit tight & unresponsive, especially since the last bball game I have played is the Live '10 demo
- CPU tries too many alleyoops
- Saw a really awkward putback dunk animation by Peja Stojakovic (of all people)
- 5 minute quarters in My Player (hopefully they patch this so you can up it)
Either way, I'm probably going to play mostly FIFA 2010 until they release the patch, then I can get into an Association with some downloaded created drafts. I'll give more impressions in next few days or so when I've had more time with game.

So I got the game yesterday and played a couple of quick 5 mins per quarter games. I wont talk about stats or something that can be solved with sliders since I am still playing around with them.
What I like:
- graphics: the courts have really improved, the faces look very good and the animations are just the best Ive seen in a basketball game.
- gameplay: I really like the fact that stars are playing like their RL counterparts. Stars will finally kill you on good nights. The game feels nice in the post.
- modes: I only did the draft so far but I know I will like Myplayer. Association is deep as ever. NBA today is -now that I want to play quick games - a superb feature.
- presentation: A+. Commentary is really entertaining. It feels TV-like. I also find the atmosphere very cool despite some criticism Ive heard. it's not perfect but the crowd is reacting way better than in the last versions.
- edit players: Its possible to edit almost everything a player does to make him look, play and move like he does in RL.
What I dont like:
- framerate issues: not so often but they are definitely there! Depends on the arena I guess. I just dont want that on my ps3 since I cant upgrade it and developers should know how to handle this.
- shot releases: Am I the only one who thinks the release of the shots have almost disappeared. They made them faster on almost every player and there is just no difference graphically between letting the ball go too late or too early. Why change this one? That was one of the best inventions in sports games imho.
- gameplay: the perimetre feels a bit uncontrollable at times but I also blame myself since I am lost on All-Star so far. Good guards kill me with their drives and when I manage to play good help D they kick it out. Thats just realistic I guess.

The 1st couple of days i had this game i thought it was amazing.
Since then iam getting more disappointed by the day, there are so many bugs in this years game not to mention the framerate and why the hell have they done away with manual releasing on the shot?
I hit 8 3's in a row with Nate Robinson in practice mode on superstar, the shot release gives a better feel to the game imo.
I really hope 2k fixes the problems fast.
Ive even gotten to the point of thinking about buy nba live this weekend.

Thats really weird. I still dont get why they changed the releases of every shots. There were some which were broken like Jackson's or Martin's ... too easy too block. But changing all shots to the extend where you cannot really influence the release is just stupid.

Okay, played a human game against my older bro on All-Star level on default sliders, so got a better feel of how 2k10 compares to 2k9.
Pros:
- Dodgy goaltending calls on legit rebounds are gone.
- You can't throw passes through people, they'll get picked off.
- Lebron took over for me down stretch in 4th, including a nice tip dunk to seal the deal for a come from behind win. In general, superstar players seemed to be able to step it up a notch. My brother was absolutely killing me with Ray Allen & The Truth was doing his usual thing.
- Presentation & commentary (with regards to content) are noticeably better.
Cons:
- Player signature shots seem broken. Definitely not as fluid as NBA 2k9. I really don't know what they did with them. Some looked pretty good, like Ray Allen. As others have said, seems to be sped up & doesn't resemble their shots as much.
- Inside scoring still too easy. Will need to adjust sliders.
- Animations don't seem as good as 2k9. Maybe they removed some of the canned aspect. Either way control isn't as fluid as it should be.
FG % wasn't too bad, both teams shooting in the low to mid 50's. Granted, that's a bit too high, but if inside shots are made harder then that should drop that back to mid 40's.
Overall, once I get use to the game more & its intricacies, plus the impending patch to fix up some of the bugs, it should be a pretty enjoyable game & better than 2k9

As I played with the sliders for a dozen of games I am now really satisfied and have a superb gaming experience. Inside scoring is toned down, contested shots under the basket wont fall most of the time. I have many non steal turnovers and its really tough to just throw the ball inside for the easy score. Toned down alleys and tip dunks really get me out of my seat when they occur.
It's really cool to see that I have my problems playing with weaker teams against good teams and the other way around it's easier for me to play with good teams.
Last year I got owned by the Grizzlies or the Kings and especially by players like Michael Conley or Beno Udrih. This year stars play like stars and scrubs play like scrubs. There won't be any sucker lighting up against me as long as I defend on an average level.
The only thing that really pisses me off is the whole save settings bug. I won't start a dynasty until a patch is out because I hate those bugs.
X, which animations don't you like? I find that especially the dunking is just awesome this year.
Fri Oct 16, 2009 12:00 am
I do like dunk/layup animations. Can't remember what I was thinking when I wrote that, maybe I'm more referring to the jump shot/signature shots & more control responsiveness in general.
Either way, game is good

EDIT: Played my first online games against my mate. Boy, people weren't joking about the shitty 2k servers. Game was a bit laggy, which makes it affect timing of jumpshots & the like. They better be fixing this up pronto.
