Not really. The PSU in my old rig broke down, I thought the mobo and CPU was also done for but I replaced the PSU and got the rig functioning again. It still functions to this day. Though it was a shot in the dark sort of thing, if it didn't work then when I replaced the PSU at least I have a PSU ready for a new unit, which fortunately I didn't have to.
the point why I was asking for the brand was that some no brand PSUs dont really provide the wattage as they advertise..so advertise a high wattage but when you look at the rating, the 12V amperage is low (which isnt good as most PC components nowadays draw power from the 12v rail)
Id rather have a good 450W PSU than a generic 650W one..
So yes, quality of PSU is very important..
Good point and nicely done with the details you've given. That's why it's always a good idea to understand and check the ratings on a PSU.
I made my assumptions with everything being equal, except maybe the price.
