Not really. The PSU in my old rig broke down, I thought the mobo and CPU was also done for but I replaced the PSU and got the rig functioning again. It still functions to this day. Though it was a shot in the dark sort of thing, if it didn't work then when I replaced the PSU at least I have a PSU ready for a new unit, which fortunately I didn't have to.

the point why I was asking for the brand was that some no brand PSUs dont really provide the wattage as they advertise..so advertise a high wattage but when you look at the rating, the 12V amperage is low (which isnt good as most PC components nowadays draw power from the 12v rail)
Id rather have a good 450W PSU than a generic 650W one..

So yes, quality of PSU is very important..

Good point and nicely done with the details you've given. That's why it's always a good idea to understand and check the ratings on a PSU.
I made my assumptions with everything being equal, except maybe the price.

I had a friend who lost an 8800GTS then because he thought that his generic 600W PSU with "cool LED lights" could handle his overclocked system...I also hear of people losing mobos from PSU failures..im not saying 100% it takes out a component with it but thats one of the risks with using a bad PSU on a heavy system..

my 3 year old HEC Acepower 480w though was able to handle my OCed e6300+ 8800GTS combo..and it still does till now although that PC is with my mom now so she only uses it for msn lol

Though if the PSU did provide insufficient current as explained before, the damage can't be solely attributed to the generic PSU. Other factors might have also been involved with his system giving up as compared to yours, such as insufficient ventilation and add the "cool LED lights" making it overheat more.
He did deserve it for having non-important LED lights on his system.
I just don't get people why they would put excessive LED lights on a PC. It's not even a car and it's not like they need pedestrians to see them in their room while using the PC so as to avoid accidents.

.

I do think its the generic PSU..first thing I noticed was how light it was (which indicates cheap parts were probably used as the good ones are usually heavy) then when we monitored the rails via everest, the output fluctuates even on idle.prior to the PSU blowing up he complained how his system seemed to underperform.(PSU probably wasnt giving enought juice to his system). So id say it was the cheap PSU that caused it..

Sometimes when you look at the label you will see high overall wattage but then

agreed! lol, my Coolermaster CM 590 case has a LED fan in the front and thats just it...I didnt put any extra lighting and all the extra fans i bought are non LED..i hate when the PC glows because it distracts me at night

Or worse, lacking some key (safety) components.

No distractions. Got to be alert when smut surfing. :cheeky:

you could start by upgrading your RAM perhaps? it will really speed up your system/ 1 gig for that setup is just imbalanced

@honkeytot, just how sure are you that the CPU is the problem?

anyway, how about the other games @strider08? how are they working for you?

i dont think your processor is such a big problem though as its decent anyway. sure its not a core i7 but for a game like NBA 2k10 that proc should be good enough
what about drivers, what drivers are you using?
what kind of frames do you get on other games?what about benches? we need to see if the poor performance is also present on other programs and not just NBA 2k10

another issue im seeing is the PSU as if this http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=3738 is your PSU, it only has 30A on the 12v rail which is kinda pushing it for having a 9800GTX/GTS250..my PC back home has an e6300 and an 8800GT and I always felt it was on the edge with my HEC Acepower 480 that had 32amps on the 12v.. to be honest im not very sure if its really the issue but it could be helpful to eliminate this possibililty (without cost) by borrowing a better PSU from a friend (if you could) and see it it improves

bro tnx for the reply, uhm im using the latest drivers from nvidia and inno3d. sad to say that i have only 2 games the other one is call of duty world at war and the game is running in good performance and high quality graphics. about the psu, i have a friend that is using the same psu as i am and his nba2k10 is running in everything high with no problems. his specs are e7500 2.93ghz and 3 gb of ram and palit 9800gt super edition. another thing when i lowered the player quality to medium and everything high i am gaining 50-55 fps from 20-25fps on player quality set on high.

50-55fps is still low for medium settings with your GTS250 (see your friend's 9800GT is slower than your 9800GTX/GTS250) as im getting constant 60fps (vsync on, and higher than 60 with vsync off) on max settings + 8xMSAA and 16XAF

oh, by the way, is your vsync set to on? i assume you have an LCD monitor right? what resolution are you playing at?

yes vsync is set to on and i am using 1152x864 resolution when playing 2k10. i know that my vc is greater than my friend's but why i can't play with high settings?

try turning off vsync, vsync caps your fps to (primarily) your monitors refresh rate..and then sets intervals of frames per second that your computer can consistently give

for example, on my system with vsync on i get constant 60fps in game (since my PC ouputs more than 60fps with vsync off)..but on say the start of the game where the view is zoomed so far, my fps drops to a constant 25fps (so its capped at 25 because thats the highest constant fps my PC can output at that view)
