Searching for realistic gameplay........

Postby vinnie08 on Sun Oct 11, 2009 11:54 pm

Hey NLSC/N2KSC,

Basically, i have played Live05 (using roster updates from NLSC) for the past few years (only have a PC) cos as we all know, 06-08 is pretty average. I've invested in the 2K series as everyone raves about the gameplay and how much better it is. I don't care about graphics, this "my player" rubbish, all im looking for is to play out a season with my Mavs in a relatively realistic environment. I plan on pretty much going through a season with the rosters and any major injuries reflecting the 2009/2010 season. I had my live05 settings tuned pretty damn well so that the game was a challenge. Is anyone else looking for this?

So far in 2K10, the player motions and shots have been a very nice upgrade over live05 obviously. However, why does the computer (in Hall of Fame difficulty) always find it necessary to fast break after everyone of my missed shots? i was playing against the spurs of all teams, and as soon as i missed, they immediately got on the break, which should only occur rarely. Will modifying the coaching tendencies such as offensive tempo and fast break etc etc in the coach options affect this? (although spurs are pretty low already). Also, it seems to easy for players to make catches underneath the basket on a high-low pass, like the defender isn't there with his arms in the passing lane chasing his man. I'm gonna try and slowly tweak the sliders and get a better feel for 2K10 in the next few weeks as well as learning how to call and execute plays in a game.

So what does everyone think of the gameplay so far? Has anyone had any success in tweaking the sliders yet?
And, is anyone modding the game to fix the coaching options saves so the comp doesnt call timeouts/make subs for me??
i think thats about it for now,

cheers

I'd like to revisit this point. I'm still having the same problem as vinnie08 here. Almost every missed shot is a fastbreak opportunity for the CPU. On the other hand, I have trouble getting more than 2 fast break points PER GAME! And that is with Offensive Tempo and Fastbreak maxxed.

Really would appreciate some help here.

Well, to stop the cpu fast breaks, you need to turn crash boards down so your guys get back on D quicker. I play half court defense pretty well so fast breaking is the best way to beat me. Depending on the type of shots you are taking, you might have too many people near the hoop and if the cpu gets the rebound, prepare to get burned. I guess I am accustomed to getting back on defense manually with a SF/PF/C since my guards are the only one to defend the break.

When defending against the break, I find it easier getting into the passing lane or trying to meet the pass receiver and contest his shot or strip the layup. Basically, try to get into the passing lane as quick as possible and learn where they like to pass it, which usually goes to a man on the sideline. That will either stop them from making the outlet pass or you can attempt to steal the pass.

As for fast breaking, you need to hit your PG or wing man in stride as they start to run as soon as possible after the rebound. If you pass it while they are standing still, it will take too long and the defense will have better position, resulting in your teammates slowing down. So get it to them when they take off using lead icon passing and just turbo up to the front court. If you give it up to the pg at halfcourt, you might still be able to run the break. Sometimes I try to wait and hit him as a trailer but he will slow up to start the play if I wait too long. That may be an effect of me having offensive playcalling set to auto, though. My best fast breaks come after a pass interception on the perimeter.

Thanks for the help pDub. Yeah I'll give that a try. I think I've been just slamming on the pass button everytime I get a rebound, getting the ball to my PG, which like you said, slowed him down and the defense gets back. And at higher difficulties I rarely ever get a fastbreak unless for an interception on the perimeter.
