So this is the computer I'm buying just to play this game.

Mon Oct 26, 2009 11:48 pm

I've had it with my computer and I'm gonna buy a new one just to play this game and Fallout 3 :)
Do you think it will be powerful enough? Is the graphics card good?

Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93GHz
4 GB DDR2 Ram
ASUS GeForce 9600GT

I have everything else, such has HDD's and such, so I'm just buying a motherboard, CPU, Ram and graphics card.

I paid $400 for

Core 2 e8400 3.0
4GB DDR3
GTS 250 1GB RAM
500 GB 32mb cache HD
Win XP Pro
Gigabyte p43-es3g

your better off spending more on CPU and GPU power then anything else

I think that CPU will be alright, I'm more worried about the graphics card.

Btw, I'm buying the parts and building it myself. I read that the E7500 CPU is overclockable to over 4Ghz, so that's kinda why I'm thinking of buying it.

I just read somewhere that it was a good card. Do you have any suggestions for better card, but preferably in the same price range.

Completely disagree, Geforce GPUs are always the way to go as far as I'm concerned.

Geforce are more reliable, because some games often recommend them but ATI's have been great lately, especially with the fastest GPU out right now. If you are going to upgrade, I recommend Alienware more than anything. As of fallout 3, I was able to play it on my overclocked Laptop at 20-25 fps but as of NBA 2k10, I get 15-20 fps and thats because I have my settings maxed out but moving jerseys. I have a Geforce 8400ms, so the 9600 GT should be great but I think 2k10 relies more on the CPU because I was getting higher fraps in 2k9.

it doesnt matter which type you chose its all opinion, they constantly take each other over for the current lead, so unless you are doing to buy a brand new expensive one and want the absolute best at the time it really doesnt matter.

Nice price for that system, Nacho. I've been pondering a new system after checking out some of the newegg deals. I will probably build it piece by piece.

My older computer seems to be dying or dead since it freezes when booting windows, it's 5 years old.

My 5 year old-

Athlon XP 2500 @ 2.2(3200 speed)
Abit AN7
1gb DDR 400
Sapphire Radeon X800 XT PE 256 mb
SB Audigy 2zs Platinum

This system ran many games well, up until Crysis and BioShock came out.

A couple of weeks ago I was pondering a new computer, since my newest one is 2 years old. It ran fallout 3 good and the 2K games flawlessly.

My 2 year old-

Core 2 Duo E6750
Asus P5k-E Wifi/AP - this motherboard has been nothing but problematic. Turn it off and leave it off and it will refuse to POST.
3gb DDR2 400
New XFX Radeon HD 4850 1gb ram(Was Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 256mb ram originally)
500 gb 32mb cache Seagate
800 watt switching power supply - F Yeah!

KyotoCarl, I would suggest what NastyNacho1 said. The cpu and graphics card are very important and you might be upgrading to older hardware. It would be better to pay for something that isn't completely brand new, but maybe came out a few months ago. It will be more expensive, but will have alot more longevity. Notice my 5 year old machine? I bought that videocard just after the ATI x850's came out. It was $500(because it was the platinum edition) at the time, but it lasted me a long time. I had a Radeon HD 3850 in my newer computer, which was a small step lower than the 3870 in terms of performance, but a great bargain for the price at the time. I would still have it if I hadn't spilled water on it.

It's ultimately up to you to decide what you want to do with the computer. Do you want it just for now since you have the money and want to play those two games? Do you think there might be some epic games down the road that you might want to be able to run? Would you want to upgrade your computer once again or would you rather be able to play those future games on your newly bought system? If you are thinking about the future, then I suggest you spend the extra buck, get some DDR3 memory, a quadcore or an i7, a fat 1TB drive or a really fast 500 gb drive, or two in RAID, and read through guru3d.com's forums for information on videocards. You might want to go with a dual videocard solution or for one of those "dual chip" graphics cards like the X2's.

I wish you good luck.

thats true, on down the road gaming will get more extreme, especially with directx 11 approaching!!!

My only problem is that I'm a laptop fan cause I'm always on the move, so for me to truely get the power a desktop gets, I have to come more out of my pockets!!! :|

Only con is if you don't have a quad core processor there is no way you will get more than 20fps on max setting no matter what video card you have. I guess there is just too many things going on that is necessary to process so you need the four execution cores. 2 cores will just not cut it. It is too bad they do not list a quad core processor as recommended in the specs or on the box.

Other Thoughts: As soon as I replaced my dual core with the Phenom II x4 965 my frame rates went from 15 on max setting to 90 on max settings! Wow! Amazing how some games are so SEVERELY processor limited. My FPS went up on Crysis Warhead dramatically as well too so I'm sure I pumped up my system in every respect.

If you have a dual or quad core processor, you need to go to the config.cfg file in your savegame directory (c:\documents and settings\user\application data\2ksports\2k10\...) and edit the following:

CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_0 = 1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_1 = -1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_2 = -1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_3 = -1

to

quad core
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_0 = 1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_1 = 1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_2 = 1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_3 = 1

or dual core

CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_0 = 1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_1 = 1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_2 = -1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_3 = -1

Should make some difference.

i paid 300AUD for Intel Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, NIVIDIA 7950GT 512MB, 2GB RAM
Gigabyte 3D Aurora case, Thermaltake 750W PSU with onli 160GB harddrive =s
is this okay price? its running okay for 2k10

That's not accurate, petey006. I have a Core 2 duo(dual core) and run the game on maximum, with 2x AA on and get 60 fps at 1680x1050. I am willing to bet you had an AMD dual core procesor which have had problems with all sorts of games for years.

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo, should I do it?

Do what? Upgrade your processor to play 2k10? No. Not unless you really have more needs for a processor with more cores.

lols. I got that from a review from Newegg.
Anyways i do have a AMD Dual Core processor. I never seem to have any problems with it up until NBA 2K10. All games ran smooth for me.
However i did tweaked the configs and i am getting the smooth 60 FPS while maintaining higher settings :D

petey006,

Dont put Thread 1 and 1

That just means your putting 2 additional threads to Core 2

As long as he's getting 60 fps on high settings, he shouldn't change a thing.

my cpu is : intel D 940 3.2

cpu-id says i have 2 cores...:) so what setting should i use ?

and last year wasnt it like this: ?
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_0 = 1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_1 = 2
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_2 = -1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_3 = -1

1 and 2

and not

1 and 1

???

thx 4 advice ;)
