Who else is dissapointed by online play?

Tue Oct 27, 2009 6:16 am

I mean everything about it is bad..
Servers dont work half the time and when they do network errors can happen that end the game and that has been in previous 2k games..
Then its hard to find a decent game thats not 15fps or something and its never smooth playing as offline..
Lobbies are badly designed..
When you put yourself as available and others invite you to a game you cant see any info about them like sun and bars or game details..
You might want a quick game but what if he puts 12min quarters.
When a player puts himself in a lobby he should choose what he wants and others should see details and just press "play him"..
I once put myself in a lobby and was getting many invitations per second so I say yes to one and it was a 1v1 21 street game.. Man that mode is stupid..

And with playing ranked matches I feel like there is no defense.. Its to easy to score and hard to defend..
Like if you play a player that goes inside every time there is no way to defend it..Ray Allen dunks on Dwight waiting for him..

Offline is much more enjoyable

who isn't disappointed with the PC's online mode is the better question....

so far, my only gripe about online is the frequency of servers being down. aside from that, there is none.

about playing defense in online games, i have to disagree with what iounasas said. you just need to practice more. i guarantee you, defense wins games. i have played different kinds of guys(cheesers, noobs, sim players), and i have been able to adjust my strategy against them. im currently ranked 11th in the leaderboards. 17-2(17W streak).

I was ranked as high as 8.. I quit one 15fps game and had to leave another so it probably dropped..didnt look..
I change my defense constantly.. I managed to stop a user forcing with rose and bryant but than somebody comes and just throws alley oops and I couldn't do anything to stop that.. That was ridiculous.. He was trowing alleys from as far as halfcourt..
And passing to a bigman near the rim is undefendable.. You just cant block that shot..
And then there is pick and roll that is also 90% sure when you pass to roller.
If you play myplayer and you try to block a player under the rim and jump perfectly it doesnt even say "good defence"..

Online mode sucks. Period. Besides the tons of bugs of it, I have a theory: football games like pro evolution soccer, fifa and madden for example, they're clearly designed to be played in a multiplayer environment, online or not. Basketball games always ment to be played in association mode, franchise, etc. I mean, Playing against a human opponent, leads to an unrealistic gameplay, 'cause you can run like a crazy ass motherfucker, take advantage of guys like kobe, king james, 'cause the game allows you to da that, but in a football game, you can't just run with cristiano ronaldo all around the field, by the half time he'll be tired as hell and you'll have to put granero to play...
they should create something like, the guy carrying the ball and runing across the court should be much more tired than they are now, 'cause PGs were meant to carry the ball, dribble a lot and still feel fresh after some minutes of ball handling, but you couldn't do that with james, otherwise he will miss jumpers and will not be able to penetrate properly... I don't know, I just want to say that you should get penalised in some manner for playing with only one guy in the team and now all the b ball games doesn't. If we play with james penetrating, shooting, being a point guard, being a rebounder and a power forward he'll be tired by the end of the game, just like real life...hehehe but ih you do that with kobe he'll should be dead tired... 'cause we only have one guy capable of penetrating, assisting, "point guardind", rebounding and posting, and this guy is the king.

Have any of you played 2K9 on the 360? 2Ksports really needs to improve their online service, period.

Man.. Im done with online.. After getting several 15fps matches I finally found one 45fps but it was also slow and choppy and fast at times..
Its horrible, I was 1/15 for 3..
I remember playing some old nba live online and I didnt have any problems even on old dialup..

This is just a failure..No excuses or patches can fix online

It's funny how we were all disappointed with no online last year, but in the end we were ok with it because we finally got a current-gen PC bball game.

I haven't been tempted enough to play online because Live 10 is really fun online, and of the 900-2000 2K10 people that are online, I only get 1 room with about 8 or 9 people in it.

As for the frame rate issue, I think it has to do with the way the game has to synchronize everything. Remember in 2K9, we had to turn V Sync on or else the jump shots ended up as air balls a lot of the time. So, I am guessing the game needs to synchronize all the controller input and sound and the video performance online to provide an even match. Obviously it's not satisfactory.

My advice is to provide as much information about these issues to the developers at the official 2ksports forums so they can improve on it for next year, if not in a patch.

A weird problem for me started a few days ago. I have to turn off my firewall now in order for 2K10 to access anything online. Even after I allow 2K10 net access through my firewall, it still blocks it. Also, My Player doesn't have his photo on the 2Ksports site. Probably because I changed his appearance a few times.

I think these are not issues but programming laziness..
Game works in perfect conditions with same performance and no lag but in the real world it fails..
First of all there should be no framerate syncing..
If I run it at 60 fps and opponent at 30 than interpolate opponents actions and run my game at 60fps..
Fps of the game should not depend on ping to opponent and performance..
This game doesnt have any lag compensation features..They went the easy way

And about airballs with no vsync.. They run game physics calculations at the same place where the game writes to video card buffer.. Thats crazy, physics should run in another thread with fixed time intervals independently..

Sound like you know more about it then I do, which I know very little about where physics calculations are being done. There shouldn't be framerate syncing because anything can cause the framerate to jump up or down depending on what is happening in each user's cpu. The only thing that needs to be sent along the net is what each user is doing from a controller standpoint. I just find it odd that the actual video performance of the game could drop so much just by playing over the net.

I just played my first...well half of a game online. My opponent wasn't a cheeser but the game was so slow and the framerate was so bad. Then it just kicked us out and said network connection problem.

Are steam users having these same issues? How do you guys play each other online, if at all?

I don't understand, what bad is with online? If you have lag, buy better net or upgrade PC. I have play a lot of game, and about 70% no lag.

Re: Who else is dissapointed by online play?

it's not lag on the computer's fault, it's lag on the server end of things

most of us can play other games perfectly online with no issues. there is something wrong with 2k10 itself, not us

What minimum FPS must be in Benchmark Permorfamnce, if you want good play in online? I somewhere heared 40fps..

I dont think server is the problem. When you play 1v1 game connection is direct between players with some communication with server..
I dont know how teamup works in this game cause I never managed to play one. It could be peer 2 peer like bittorent or with a central server that FPS games use..
Problem is that the online code is very simple..
This is what online FPS has to make it smooth as offline and I think there is more than this:
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki ... timization

You know how in FPS you and your movement and viewing is always smooth but seeing people with large ping can make their characters move more choppy..
If FPS was done the 2K way your own movement and looking around would be choppy as well as other people moving around..

At this moment I would say there is no online play in 2k10, in what world lives the people who say that this mode is enjoyable?!?! More than half of time since the game was released, the servers were offline, so it wouldn't be smart to say that the lag and framerate issues are the user's connection fault. Have you ever played games like Quake, WoW, Diablo, Counter-Strike??!? C'mon, there is no longer the space for crappy online buggy modes!!! It's the year 2009, people uses internet at the beach here in BRAZIL, I say again: in Brazil, there's wireless connection and people writes here at the forum, drinking beer and watching bikiny ladys boucing their big asses. Don't say that this crappy online mode is something.

2K should at least let this master piece game be played IP 2 IP like nba live 08

they should save their bandwith for console people

i dont understand why they didnt do it
