I want to start patching courts, how do I start?

Had a thread up for this before, but did not get an answer. There's a lot of patchers on this site and I'm just hoping someone could help me start out patching cause I don't know what tools to use or exactly how to go about it. Just something to get me started.

I'm appreciated alot of patches on this site and now I'd like to contribute.
