How to add new music in the game

Postby Full Surface on Sat Oct 30, 2004 12:31 pm

First off, you need a program called Ditty Importer. It's created by the NHL team from EASports.

Download link:

ftp://ftp.ea.com/pub/easports/misc/nhl2002/wimpditt.exe

What this program does is that it allows people to add their own songs to the NHL series game. But the great thing about it is that it also works for other EA titles too, such as NBA Live.

The next step you have to do is to get an .mp3 format of the songs you want. I'm sure most of you know how to do that but I won't get involved with any issues with downloading music. Take your own risk.

After you get the MP3's you want, use the Ditty Importer to convert the .mp3 files to .asf (music files which EA games use). Rename each .asf file to the following:

xsong1
xsong2
xsong3
etc..

After you've done all of that, place all the .asf files into your audio\music folder from the main NBA Live 2004 directory. The original EATrax songs are still in there so just be cautious before replacing them.

The filenames used in the 1-on-1 and practice modes are xmsong.

.asf files can reach up to 20MB depending on length of the song. Make sure you have a lot of disk space.

Enjoy your new variety of music :P

Stickied. (Y) Do you mind if I link to this tutorial (and the others) from the NLSC's Tutorials section? You would of course receive full credit as the author of each article.

As far as I know, the game only detects 12 songs. You can try putting 13 if you want to see if it works but I highly doubt it.

Sorry.. I don't have the song track numbers. What you can do is open the game and look at the Jukebox (in My NBA Live).

Bump J - We Don’t Play No Games
MC Lyte - My Main Aim
Joell Ortiz - Mean Business
Nomb - Carolina Pride
Don Yute - Dem Gals (NBA Live 2005 Mix)
Pete Rock Feat. Kardinal Offishall - Warzone (NBA Live 2005 Mix)
Stat Quo - The Best
Wylde Bunch - Our Lyfe
Will.I.Am. - Go!
Dirtbag - Here We Go
Murphy Lee feat. Jazze Pha & Jody Breeze - It’s In Da Game
Lloyd Banks and Young Buck - Me Against You
The D.O.C. - Mind Blowin’
Brand New Heavies - Jump ‘N Move

It has something to do with hex coding. Go to the Live 2004 patching issues forum and read the post from Little_Big_Man. It might work with this year's version too.

ok well I found out through experimentation that xsong5 is My Main Aim (MC Lyte), so hopefully all the other songswill be in the same order.
xsong8=Lloyd Banks & Young Buck
xsong7=Mean Business

Done with importing new song or replacing songs.
But can we "export" those song out ?
I mean convert the .asf to .mp3, so it plays in Winamp or other mp3 player.
As far as I know, Ditty only convert to .asf and not the other way.

Ohhhh!!!

Postby kibaxx7 on Sun Nov 07, 2004 12:50 pm

There´s a little difference.

In 2004, the hex edit for the songs is in NBA Live 2004\loc\xlocale.eng.
But in 2005, there´s a lot of files in \loc folder. What´s the one I have to edit to change the songs´names?

xsong13.asf
The D.O.C.
Mind Blowin'
EA Throwback Trax

xsong14.asf
Brand New Heavies
Jump 'N Move
EA Throwback Trax

In order to change the song names check out this (credit Little_Big_Man):
RemixTeam FXEDIT32 Music Editing TUTORIAL

The file to edit is now locale.eng.

Just search for each individual string that you want to replace in FXEDIT32, and replace it as shown in the tutorial (Edit > Edit String)

Also, as there are five occurances of 'NBA Live 2005 Exclusive' and it can get confusing.
I suggest you search these last and edit them in the order than FXEDIT32 finds them.

(I am pretty sure this is the order  )

The 1st result applies to: xsong6
2nd: xsong8
3rd: xsong5
4th: xsong7
5th: xsong1
6th: xsong10

EA Throwback Trax appears twice
1st: xsong13
2nd: xsong14

Hope this helps

ps. Always backup! :)

you said "The original EATrax songs are still in there so just be cautious before replacing them. "

i don't want any of those songs. so do you just mean be cautious cause if you overwrite or delete them, they ain't coming back? or do you mean i can mess up the game somehow?
