how to shoot/throw a floater ?

how do I shoot a floater.I play with the spurs and i can't get TP to shoot floaters.I tried to hold the left stick away from the basket but then he does a step-back and shoots.Please help.

Attempt a shot while on the run from about 18-20 feet out and your player should put up a floater.
