Presentation gripe (PAL version only)

Fri Sep 18, 2009 7:51 pm

So far I have very few complaints about the presentation on display in the NBA Live 10 demo, but one nagging inaccuracy has left me a little disappointed however. It seems that once again the PAL version of the game will feature player measurements using the metric system (centimetres, kilograms) rather than the imperial system (feet, inches, pounds). In the grand scheme of things it's a minor detail but since authenticity is the name of the game I was hoping that would be corrected after last year. Even if the metric system is what I'm likely to use day-to-day, when it comes to talking basketball and an NBA video game I'd rather have the imperial system as that's what I'm used to in those contexts.

Hopefully that's something that can be patched, an override for the region or whatever to use the imperial system instead. It's a nitpicky thing, but it's all part of the authenticity of the presentation and you're highly unlikely to see metric measurements in an NBA broadcast.

Fair call. I'm used to the metric system when talking about basketball as well, such as how tall someone is. I would rather use the term 6"6 than whatever that is in centimetres. Even though in Australia we use the metric system, Andrew's right. Lets hope more people agree.

Agreed, I also noticed that when playing demo. Lamar Odom is 101kg, which I know is roughly about 222, but still, show me pounds any day. Andrew, I think it's more done for mainland Europe rather than us. Although would be nice to be an option to choose between. Can you put in with rest of patch request stuff (even if it is minor  )?

Absolutely, I'm all for seeing it patched. I think you're right about it being done more for the European market and other PAL regions having to put up with it. It can't hurt to ask, presentation wise it's at least close to being on par with the skipping celebration. :)

You mean you don't skip after you make a basket? I guess that's the difference between us & the pros

I guess that's why we didn't make it to the big time. ;)

Got a small update on this. There's no guarantee that this will be patched this year, but the guys are aware of the issue and will see what can be done. If I get any more info, I'll be sure to post it.

Same here. Even though I think the imperial system is a tool of the devil and that the metric system must be imposed on everyone if they don't want to be accused of being a pedophile nazi sympathizer, the metric system just seems weird with regard to the NBA.

lol also at the skipping celebration. Come to think of it, every video of the Live demo I saw has that annoying animation. I didn't get to try the demo and even I think it's annoying.

That's it. Well, pedophile Nazi sympathiser might be going a little too far, but it's certainly out of place in an NBA game.
