Sorry if this is a dumb question-- but is there any way to manually post-up/backdown?

nope,

To quote Mike Wang over at OS

To post up, you have to feather your stick and "walk" into your defender.

I wonder why there wouldn't be a post-up button. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Yes, that does strike me as a weakness in this year's control scheme especially as the stick buttons don't seem to be put to use. Last year we could use the right stick button to start backing down opponents. Having post up animations be contextual isn't too bad but could serve to increase our chances of being stripped while trying to set up in the post.

The way they contest shots in this game, I don't really like it because it's like they don't try hard enough some of those little lay ups should get swatted out of here lol. probably played like 20 games or more this afternoon, I'm loving it. too bad we can't change the zoom on the camera angle

The better handle I get on the game, the more I like it. Playing defense would frustrate me before, but now that I understand how to, I like it... and it seems very realistic.

Would anybody mind sharing the scores they're finishing up with? Mine are usually between 15-20 points, each team on All-Star Difficulty... for some reason I have it in my mind that this is low.

I played only at superstar level and my impressions are very positive. Every player feels completely diffrent. Its very hard to play good defense. Two things that I didn't like : There's no backdown button and opponent steals too much ( I guess I have to change sliders a little) .
I've got one question . When I'm dribbling and moving with the ball and I want to make an off balance shot controlled player does the hop and then shots. How to fadeaway without the hop?

P.S : Derek Fisher makes too many shots :)

No doubt that Live10 is an improved product of 09. Its obvious that the game developers focused on 'user control' (ie. shooting, dribbling, off-ball control, directional pass) which is a big plus. The graphics is incredible but abit too shiny on player models, especially on top of players heads. It seems as if theres oil all over players skin. I also think challenging shots can be improved. It has improved from live09 but I feel that the AI made too many tough shots even when Iv contested the shot. The hanger definitely had lighting problems. It made lebron look abit like Yao Mings skin tone which was awkward. The dribbling was smooth and cool at first. But then I felt like it was overpowered. Just holding to a button and your player does continuos crossovers that freeze up the defender. Moving your right stick to any direction tends to create space 8 out of 10 times then youve got a wide open shot. I've played over 10 games now on All-Star mode and I like the challenge at this level. I dont feel like the AI dominated the game while each game I played was a close game.

My impressions of Live 10 is that its a significantly improved game. Live is back~ its true. Unfortunately, it feels more arcady to me than live09. Its a strange feeling. Playing live10 felt like playing with animation characters more than ever before (again, the greesy player models contributed to this feeling). I played alot of NBA2k10 draft combine this week b4 the release of live10s demo. I hate to say that I had much more fun with the draft combine than playing live, possibly because I got to create my own player and develop his stats and there were game objectives and stuff. I hope the more i play live10 the better i like it or else i wont end up buying live10 when its released. So far none of their new features sound that interesting..

I'm not really worried about this demo. . .You have to play on Superstar Level, you REALLY have to use matchup problems and tweak the sliders a bit. The Help Defense still sucks, players back away fromthe guy going to the rim which is annoying. But it's challenging, Playing as Jameer Nelson is amazing. Can't wait to use D-Wade and Chris Paul in a game lol, They are going to Own. TJ Ford should be one of the best PGs to use in this game too

Unfortunately, that is how I'm feeling at the moment. Any online gaming features don't interest me as I don't play online much. I like Live 365. Won't have time for any Dynamic Season. My only time will be spent in Dynasty mode. They really have to make some big leaps forward in this area or it may not be worth the purchase (neither might 2k10). But I'll play demo & have a wait & see approach.

Shame Andrew doesn't have a final copy now so he can put up an indepth review just prior to release (N)

The one thing that annoyed me about the demo was the replay of the last basket scored of the quarter, that played at the end of the first and second quarters. It's a great idea (that's what they do on broadcast stations before the commercial break), but it needs to be more than a second long. Five to six seconds would be a good length, so we can actually enjoy watching the replay. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, watch 7:03 of the video I posted below. Hopefully they fix this for the game's release. I was also not satisfied with the pick and roll control. It seemed like they downgraded it from last year. It doesn't seem to work as well and fluently.

Still hoping I can arrange it. :)

In the meantime, my full write-up's been pushed back by some other things this weekend but it'll be out soon with a couple of videos. Quality might not be the best, hopefully it'll be good enough to see what's going on. I'll need to invest in some better tech at some point.

Hey King what's up Buddy?

Here are my changes so far for the demo on All-Star Level

I also switched up the CPU's playbooks because they were stagnant with the default plays.

Speed-21 (I dropped this down and it makes the animations look better no more fast dunks or layups)

USER
FT-16 (THis was easy at default)
BLK SHOT-50 (I ALMOST MAXED THIS OUT THE OVERALL IS AT 52)
HANDS IN POST-32

CPU
ALLEY OOP FREQ-MAXED OUT
DUNK VS LAYUP FREQ-MAXED OUT
PASS ACCUARCY-MAXED OUT

You gotta tweak the game on Superstar, it's more realistic than the All-Star mode

You put the speed all the way down to 21? I turn it down to 40 and the players were all zombies, I turned it up to like 55. I'm gonna try that

I turn up the Help defense all the way up along with the Def. Rebounding, I don't know why When I'm the Lakers the Magic just kill the Lakers on the boards lol, especially with Bynum Gasol and Artest on the floor. I'll make my full judgement when I get the full game.

I'm gonna try ur dunk vs layup setting, i don't know whether to turn it up or down lol. and yeah Pass accuracy has to be all the way up!!!

I tweaked a lot of the CPU settings too, because they were shooting the lights out and getting WAY too many steals.

Dunk by Howard at 3:29 is a little unrealistic though, but I see you've toned down that old habit of yours jumping up and down... lol

I think it's more unrealistic that Howard hit a 3 pointer at the first-quarter buzzer^^
But thanks for the video ThaLiveKing, can't wait to test the demo out on my ps3

I've posted an impression of the demo earlier and after adjusting sliders I began to start enjoying the game more. Just felt like sharing stuff that I changed to improve the gaming experience. Theres only really a few things that need to be tweaked so here they are:

User block ability
User alter shot ability

pulling up these two settings by 5-15 should significantly reduce the number of contested jumpshots as well as drive in collision shots from going in (which is more like realistic basketball).

At once instance, I was able to block Derek Fishers shot with Jameer Nelson from the side which felt really awesome.

Just one more thing I'd like to mention as I was playing the demo. My housemates came home and saw me playing and they couldnt accept how ugly the game looked like. They said that the game looked robotic and the animations were choppy. Theyve seen me play live09 and they said that looked more like a real broadcasted game than live10. Heres the killer comment: "The graphics look like their from PS2"

I seriously dont know why game reviews writers such as pasta dare and Czar mentioned that the graphics were great

I am a Live and 2k fan (Yes people you can like both, try and wrap your heads around the concept) and I think the graphics are the best of the two games, and of any basketball game to date. I think you have to have the equipment to handle it though. Having a LCD or LED 1080 t.v. helps. I have seen some really good videos on Youtube and some of the quality has been shotty, but thats recording based, not first person based. I dont think right now theres a game that has better graphics then Live.

What kind of set up are using to play the game? Are you playing the game in HD or in SD?

I'm just curious because I can't agree with the assessment that LIVE 09 looks better than LIVE 10. You're entitled (or in this case your house mate) to your own opinion and everyone else is entitled to theirs.

Looking at the two games side by side I think LIVE 10 creams LIVE 09 in the graphics department. However that's just my opinion.

I personally think that EA needs to start including some kind of defensive and offensive awareness slider with the game.

The reason being is because the player logic is way off.

It seems like the game is designed to have every thing operating off of Player DNA and tendencies which is cool but what about actual player awareness that is been left out and it effect the game because it appears regardless if a guy is open or not the CPU is locked into making one pass or programmed to make the pass that the actual play requires them to make.

They never reset a play if something breaks down on offense and that is directly tied into offensive awareness. I took out Derek Fisher and put in Farmar and the PG play was no different same thing happend with Orlando when I was testing to see if the PG's would react different.

It also appears that the helpside defense is strictly tied into the sliders because there is no actual rating for the players this year. The slider controls how good or bad a team plays helpside defense as unit which is WRONG because it should be based on player defensive awareness or helpside defesnive awareness but there is no defensive awareness ratings this year for anyone which is kinda odd because this might be the 1st basketball game I've played that doesn't have defensive awareness ratings for players.

Yes there is a on ball defensive awareness rating which effects how well a defender can stay in front of his man but that doesn't effect their zone defense awareness or defense away from the ball.

I'm absolutely baffled as to why EA would take away these types of ratings for the players and then not include a Slider to replace it.

It's going to be very intersting to see once the FInal version drops if a guy like Jason Kidd is able to see the floor with a high basketball IQ or if he'll be programmed to make the pass that the play being called designates him to make.

Guys like Kidd, Nash or Paul should be able to read the defense and make the correct pass if their teammate is open by using their vision and awareness. The CPU has a tough time even completing the simpliest all-oop passes in this demo.

That is the reason why i increased the alley-oop slider and Pass accuarcy slider for the CPU just to see if they would even recognize an open guy in position to complete and alley and sometimes they see the play but they make the pass at the wrong time or it's a sloppy play all together.

If Chris Paul can't execute a simple alley oop on the final version I'm going to be highly upset because he's one of the best in the business at setting up his bigs once he gets inside the paint. Samething with Steve Nash in that situation.

I was going to post some of these findings over at OS but those guys get way to defensive about this game and I"m a true die hard Live fan just trying to alert EA of the problems I've noticed in this demo that could lead to problems on the final version if it's not patched or corrected.

There are other things I made note of but I'll hold off for now until i see the final version.
