Talk about NBA Live 10 here.
Fri Jun 12, 2009 3:47 pm
Yes, I think we can pretty much call that official.

Oh well. We'll patch the old and do what we can for the new. Some official tools would be nice.
Fri Jun 12, 2009 7:12 pm
I'm really dissapointed...
can EA at least give us some official reasons for not making a PC version.

The unofficial reason is because there are too many damn pirated games out there, with Live series being one of them. Nobody wants to release a game when only a few legal copies are purchased and then turned into millions of pirated one. You dont make any bucks that way.
Another disappointing year without Live on the PC platform, I didn't expect Live 10 to make it to PC anyway but at the same time I was hoping that I'm wrong.
Why are they releasing a PSP version anyway? Live 08 and Live 09 on PSP is very very similar to each other and it sucks big time as far as I recall. I've played it on my friend's PSP before and I couldn't spot any difference between the two Lives.
Who's ready for a TUP 10 Mod?
Fri Jun 12, 2009 10:41 pm
Modifly, will you help for an upgrade of the TUP?
Next year we will be saying again the same?

Hell yes baby!

I've only got 1 exam left. That equals free time. I'm really disappointed for not being able to help with this year's TUP and I wont let history repeat itself again.
It's an inconvenient thing to think about but I think we'll be saying this again next year.
PM me your MSN, we'll talk.

Anyway, let's stay on topic.
Sat Jun 13, 2009 12:28 am
At 18th of the month i'll finish my exams too!
but it was a bad move from EA.
Why they didn't stop FIFA too?
I'm a big fan of both games.
About piracy, i know there are many who download pirated copies, but many nba live players want to buy the DVD version.
personally i'd rather pay money and have a crash free game, than download it for free and have crashes every 5 minutes.
It's so

having crashes at quarters

I too would have to think the sales numbers for past PC versions has a lot to do with the decision but I was hoping with 2K finally reaching out to the PC audience, NBA Live would return to go head-to-head on all platforms. A PS2 port certainly wouldn't compete but a 360/PS3 port could.
Sat Jun 13, 2009 5:36 pm
If EA release a PC version for Live 10, they could be back in business again on the PC platform. Now that they dont, 2K will take all the money from the PC platform again this year. Personally I think it was a terrible move not keeping up with 2K on the PC platform, but we certainly dont have the facts and figures like EA do and EA definitely knows what we dont so obviously there must be something that they know which influenced their actions. It'll just be another damn year without Live on the PC. We'll get used to it.
Sat Jun 13, 2009 8:22 pm
I don't see why they can't just release it with their direct download service, force online activation and force you to be logged in to EA to play the game. Maybe because they know their direct download service is not good?
Sat Jun 13, 2009 8:40 pm
It might also be not everyone has a credit card/debit card to pay online especially those under 18.
Sat Jun 13, 2009 9:18 pm
Damn.. And I hoped there will be Live 10 on PC..

It looks like they won't make another Live on PC in near future.. Then all we can do is start TUP10..

At least, I'm up for it.
Sat Jun 13, 2009 10:22 pm
looks like there's no pc version of this game, i'll definitely love it if it would be a xbox/ps3 port.
Sat Jun 13, 2009 10:23 pm
Its hard to constantly go back to current gen graphics and gameplay after playing PS3 version of Live 08 & 09. I miss PC release so much the modding but its hard to look at old gen again. I just want a next gen port for PC that can be patchable mainly player hair styles, accessories and shoes to keep it fresh.
Sun Jun 14, 2009 1:37 am
I want a next gen port for PC too so that NBA Live patching is alive again. The hard fact is, EA is not releasing a PC version of Live. The harder fact is we'll have to deal with it.
Sun Jun 14, 2009 1:43 am
I'm wondering why won't they release some patch/fixes for Live 08 !?
Sun Jun 14, 2009 2:29 am
Because the game no longer make any money for them and they no longer care? Why should they even bother when Live 10 is the center of attention right now and will make a lot of money for them? Each year the center of attention changes to the newer version of the game and the older version is forgotten. It's normal. I bet the word "Live 08" is now forbidden in EA.

They didn't develop it. A 3rd party studio called HB Studios did it.
Upon looking, I found some older, but interesting information on this website.
http://www.giantbomb.com/hb-studios/65-1878/Currently, HB Studios is finishing the Wii and DS versions of Rock Revolution, and has completed PC and PlayStation 2 ports of NBA Live 09 and NHL 09.

A million units? I would have thought that would have justified a fucking PC version.
Both Moore and EA CEO John Riccitiello stressed that the company is not concerned as sales have remained consistent.
2KSports released a PC port of their Xbox360 version in one season of development time. Is EA Sports saying they can't do that? You know, a year ago I was saying it was a good thing that no 09 version would be released for PC on the belief that the Live 10 version would be nextgen on the PC.
Peter Moore wrote:We are retooling these titles [on the PC] to take advantage of the online connectivity in a bigger and more meaningful way," Moore said today, noting that EA's usual sports offerings--Madden, NCAA Football, NBA Live, etc.--will reappear on PC in 2009.
I'd like to hear what Marcus/EACrazyLegs has to say about this.

Blaming it on piracy isn't even a legit reason by itself. Executives in most business organizations have studied risk managment, piracy is a risk, apply it. Besides, instead of thinking piracy as a culprit, they should treat it as competition and think of ways on how the consumer will be persuaded to buy the original instead of getting a pirated one.

My bad.

What does this means? Does it mean that HB studio have converted Live 09 into a PC port?

Obviously it is 2009 and Live hasn't appear on PC yet. So as the rest of the games mentioned, right?

True, very true. So what do you think the reasons for not releasing the game on PC is if piracy isn't EA's biggest concern?
Sun Jun 14, 2009 3:17 am
I believe when q&a starts we will have an official reason

Possibly, but EA decided not to publish and distribute it because of reasons known to them. Considering how rich EA is, paying the developers to do the job and not push through with publishing the game is only peanut money for EA.

He doesnt know anything specific about it, i asked. He doesnt know the marketing end of things or anything to do with ports since "that goes to a different team"
Sun Jun 14, 2009 7:26 am
If piracy is such a big concern, why are there still games for pc?
That's a really lame excuse and doesn't hold water at all.
Make a better game, make online possible only with the original copy, ie PES, and work on some support.
The way EA Sports treats spports games is a disgrace. They were getting worse and worse each year and then they just pull it off...
I really hope nba2k10 is moddable, have the possibility to save stats and editable files (ie rosters).

The decision not to develop for the PC version definitely comes from higher up than the NBA Live Dev Team, it's not as though they don't care about us and are looking to screw us over. The disappointing thing is I took part in a conference call with Peter Moore shortly after he became president of EA Sports and had the opportunity to ask him about the future of the PC platform and EA Sports games and he reiterated then that the platform did indeed have a future. Now, things change and I'm obviously not as familiar with the inner workings of EA Sports as he is so I'm not going to throw out childish insults or call him a liar or anything like that, but hearing that certainly got my hopes up so it's disappointing that the company is going in another direction.
As far as the Dev Team goes though, they tend to be as transparent as they possibly can be and a very accomodating as far as feedback and giving us whatever snippets they can. I blame the suits, not the producers of the individual games.

Fuck This.
I have just about had it with EA.
