Dribble Moves Blog by Mike Wang

Mike Wang has posted a new blog on dribble moves. It includes a few videos, one of which compares the dribble moves in NBA Live 09 to the ones they have this year. Check it out here.

Still looking pretty slick to me, hopefully the controls don't feel at all clunky when trying to pull off the moves. Nice to see a few signature dribble animations on show as well.

I can't believe they wasted their time on this.

Why would you even think about creating something like this? Holding a button and someone does a bunch of stupid dribbles in place. (And in return you get to blow by any defender and score at will. But don't worry they double super triple promise there's defensive AI this year.)

What's the point?

The holding the button down is used more to setup the play but you control how your players moves from that and there is obviously the risk and reward to it.

What is worrying me, is that in the vid of the Rose steal from Rondo, the entire team is back on defense before the basket is made, Rondo catches up like it's nothing. Sure Rondo is fast, but so is Rose... That was one of the major downsides in Live 09, you just couldn't RUN on fastbreak, and the defense would catch up. This is not promising for 10... (Plus what's with the complete downplaying on 09 by EA? Not very trust inducing.)

Ok, there are strides for 10, but as said to death, we don't need kazillion shoes, or socks through which you see the tape. Decent gameplay please! Variation in offense, rewarding defense, and work on post moves, no ugly lay-ups or alley-oops!

You'd have to design a game around five-on-five instead of a series of one-on-one confrontations, but secretly nobody wants that. They want to throw a bunch of flashy moves and dunk. At least the Live team has realized that if you give people the right shoes and show that athletic tape they'll love you, as long as they can still do all the fancy moves that happen five times in a real game.

How could anyone not like 1000 shoes in the game? It's 1000 shoes people!

Don't even get me started on that ultra-realistic and ultra-cool airplane hangar to practice on. I jizz my pants everytime it's mentioned, ooops I just did.

Seems like 2k.. fans are having a good time ..
2k is even more worse, shitty graphics compared to Live. What's wrong with hangar? At least they are innovative.
Live will have the same gameplay as 2k in close future. I heard that 2k are using the same engine since 2006 (N)
Details are nice things to add(shoes). If you guys don't want details then send some request to 2ksports. Basketball game with court only(no crowd,no tattoos, everybody has same sneakers, same facial hair etc etc.)

Thanks for your insight VINCEmac.

Personally I'd take a basketball game with court only if it played like an actual basketball game.

According to you. Sure they aren't the best, but they aren't unplayable like Live's gameplay.

What's wrong with hangar? At least they are innovative.

Nothing wrong with it, just no point to it. Yay, I can play in a glitzy razz-matazz court that Michael Jackson would use for a Scream video. But oh wait, the players move like retards.

Live will have the same gameplay as 2k in close future.

At least you're aware that 2K's gameplay is superiour to Lives.

I heard that 2k are using the same engine since 2006 (N)

If it's not broken, don't fix it. EA should take notes. Isn't it sad that despite 2K using the same engine since 2006, Live still hasn't been able to come up with a decent one? But wait, we do have a hangar and lots of shoes. Googley.

Details are nice, after the core of the game is actually playable. Only then.

me from another thread wrote:But come on, 1000 shoes? Who the hell needs that? I want the dev team to have some balls in the future to tell the fans of the game something like "sorry we could only give you 50 shoes this year instead of 1000, and no airplane hangar either but just the home court for practice mode because we could save that space and use it instead to greatly improve gameplay and to bring back features such as in-game saves, better CAP and CAT mode and limits, etc..."

I certainly agree that shoes shouldn't be the main focus, but I'm a bit confused as that's not what Mike Wang was talking about or showing off in his blog. With some of the clunky moves in 09, I'm glad that dribbling animations are one of the fundamental things that have been looked at.
