10 for 10: Features

Sat Aug 01, 2009 6:01 pm

Sixth instalment in the 10 for 10 series is now available to read here.

Welcome back and thanks for taking the time to check out the sixth instalment of the 10 for 10 series, where I take a look at different aspects of the game and list the ten things I'd most like to see done in those areas for NBA Live 10. In my first five articles, I covered gameplay, Dynasty Mode, online play, presentation and the All-Star Weekend. Now I'm moving on to the features I'd like to see added, expanded or for that matter brought back in NBA Live 10.

Originally I was only going to do the six, but I've decided that a bit of a summary/recap article to finish things off would be appropriate, especially with the details we now know and how quite a few of them relate to things I've been talking about in 10 for 10. So look out for that soon. :)

Of the list, it sounds like retro jerseys & standalone playoffs mode will definitely be in the game. Of the rest of them, I feel more in depth create-a-player, legends, in game saves & custom teams would be the next four that I would want in the game. At least with custom teams, I (or the community) could create a 25th FIBA team (no guesses needed for who it'd be? ). If it had the option of putting text on jerseys like College Hoops 2k8 team editor did & choosing colours, would be easy to make the Tall Blacks or many other Euro League or D-League teams. It would definitely be a community friendly addition. They can't tell us that they can't increase the CAP limit to say 200-250 (if you have hard drive space to save them, stuff the people with no hard drives) & allow for up to 15-20 custom teams to be made.

True, retro jerseys have definitely been confirmed and it looks like a standalone Playoffs Mode has been as well, which is definitely good news but also indicates the perils of preparing these articles a week or two in advance and then rolling them out every second day or so. ;) I really should've started them a week earlier, but I'm planning on addressing some of those points in the wrap-up 10 for 10 article I'll be publishing soon.

As far as the rest are concerned, In-Game Saves, Custom Teams, Expanded Create-a-Player, Official Modding Tools and an Expanded NBA Academy are probably my top five features not confirmed for NBA Live 10. Legends are right up there of course but with the difficulties in getting likeness rights for all the necessary greats it's understandable if they're left out.
