Re-Signing Players

Postby Phil89 on Mon Nov 23, 2009 1:56 pm

During the off-season if I have players that I don't want to re-sign because of wage cap issues or age, how do I not re-sign them?

Because if you sim the week or so you get to re-sign players, it automatically re-signs players. How do you skip that week without it happening?

It's really annoying when there is good free agents available but I can't offer them the money they want because of the unwanted players being offered contracts and taking up my wage cap. :x

From memory, you need to access your roster during the offseason and then release the players you don't want to automatically re-sign from that menu screen. That's how it was last year, it's not really how it should work but it does solve the problem.

Do you mean the just before the play-offs when the menu comes up?

No, during the offseason itself.

I had that problem too, only it automatically resigned Johan Petro and Malik Allen was put on free agency. Didn't quite get what happened there but atleast I know now how to fix it

Presumably it automatically re-signs players that are interested or perhaps it gives preference to the highest rated free agents, according to the roster space available following the Draft in the offseason calendar. In any case, it's good that we do have a way of preventing that (even if it isn't the method one would expect).

The only time during the off-season to release players that I can think of is during the 'sign a free agent' period. But by then it is too late.

Releasing players then does nothing to the wage cap because you have those players wages counting for a whole year.

I've probably missed something though :?

Sorry, I probably haven't done a good job of explaining it thus far.

In Dynasty Central screen during the offseason (the calendar), you can press the Y button (Triangle on the PS3) to bring up your team's roster. From there, you can release players; anyone with zero years left on their contract at this point is an impending free agent that may automatically be re-signed. If you don't want that to happen then you can release them from this screen. Make sure you do this before the Re-Sign Players phase.

Thanks Andrew :D I would have never figured that out. It doesn't say that triangle does anything on the bottom of the screen.

No problem. Strange it doesn't have the guide though, it's definitely there in the 360 version. So long as it works, that's the main thing.
