NBA Live 10 Producer Video @ GameTrailers

Postby Andrew on Sat Aug 08, 2009 8:31 am

GameTrailers have posted an exclusive video featuring Mike Wang, the lead gameplay designer for NBA Live 10, which you can check out here. The video includes some comparisons to NBA Live 09 while demonstrating the new hustle plays, dribbling moves and improvements to rebounding. Mike also confirms that the demo will be out in early September.

It's only a few snippets but I'm liking what I'm seeing. The return of the hustle plays is long overdue but they're looking pretty nice. I like that some plays were shown to go awry with the ball still going out of bounds or a diving player knocking the ball out of reach and another player scooping it up. Looks like boxing out is going to matter a bit more in rebounding as well and the animations look nice (hopefully they've gotten rid of that little hop that doesn't even make an attempt at grabbing the rebound), I like the realism of players tapping the ball to themselves on some rebounds (that one's been in the Wishlist for years). Dribbling looks good, though the jersey movement is a little exaggerated but not a gamebreaker for me. Overall, quite promising in my view.

Speaking of such glitches, hopefully the out-of-bounds calls are cleaned up this year with the inclusion of the hustle plays.

that looked a lot better, honestly the blog videos had me worried, and gave me a lot of deja vu of 2004's 10 man mocap

i actually think that this looks real nice, and it may contest 2k this year.. too early to say, but i think that the game looks more fluid than 09.. but can't judge until i play the demoes of the 2 games..

Rebounding animations & fighting for boards looks more realistic. With tipping of rebounds, hopefully players only tip it when they are contesting for boards. Don't want to see players with nobody challenging for boards & they still tip it.

Looks very nice. The thing I am worried about is that we might only be able to do these quick dribble moves by holding down a button and the actual quickstrike moves will remain slow.

I also agree about the jerseys. They are not moving as smooth as they were last year. The shorts are all over the place and can almost make out the polygons of the shorts model as they jump around. They are definitely exaggerated for smaller shorter movements.

I did not see players scrambling for rebounds. Just one guy boxing out and going for a rebound with the possibility for what looks like a canned two-man animation where he tips the ball to himself while the player behind him attempted to fight for the rebound. There needs to be 3 or 4 guys going for rebounds on some occasions. Hopefully it was like that just to showcase the work done on the animations themselves,

Good point. I guess you could sometimes imagine the player is just fumbling the rebound a bit despite not being challenged (as can happen) but if the tipping happens too often when there's no need for it then it will certainly look a bit silly.

Agreed. I find the videos very encouraging but we'll need some hands-on experience or at least lengthier clips that show "normal" gameplay flow before we can fairly call it a success or another shortcoming. Seems promising for now though, from the looks of things it should be a step up from 09 but it remains to be seen just how much of a step up it will be.

From about 1:50 to 2:02 in the video there are a various box out battle animations. Looks more realistic than any rebounding animations from any basketball that I've played before.

This game looks like a huge improvement from NBA Live 09. From 0:05 - 0:08 you can see the scoreboard. It looks an awful lot like TNT's scoreboard.

The gameplay was good but the graphics were so discouraging.

The graphics in the video to me doesn't look like the melo shot or the vc lewis jameer and kobe shot. The graphics in the video looks cartoonish like the trailer to me, but a little bit improved. So i'm wondering if the graphics are going to be like the melo shot or the trailer?
