WEP Key

Postby mvpshaq32 on Mon May 07, 2007 6:03 pm

I need to find out my WEP key, but where exactly is it? I heard it's in my wireless security section, but I don't know where that is located either.

If I'm not mistaken, you should have an instruction manual with your wireless router detailing how to access your security section.

I don't know about yours, but I have a Sitecom wireless router and to acces the security section on that, I need to type in a string of numbers in to the browser (Internet Explorer) and it takes me to the main configuration page of the router. I'm not sure, but I think it's the IP address that the router has assigned to your network.

So say it's like 192.879.XX < Where the X is, I think I had to type 0 or something. This is all very vague, but it's only because I've gone back to my cable, so I can't be sure. My suggestion would be to read how to configure everything from the manual.

If that ultimately doesn't work and you don't get some tech guy helping you out, at the end of the day I'll connect my wireless router and look up the specifics for you.

What Jackal said is the basics of the wireless router. For further information, try reading the manual...

The vast majority of routers are assigned to 192.168.1.1 on your home network. I do have one that's 192.168.15.1, though, and if you figure out what brand and model your router is, you can find a manual on their website that will tell you the exact IP.

So just type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar in Firefox/IE/whatever and the default username and password will usually be admin and admin. WEP info should be in there somewhere.

I wish someone would find me a key to the World of Easy Pussy.

EDIT: in retrospect, that wasn't very funny. Great first post in a while, cameron.
