i had this problem before as well, just a few days ago i had lebrone james in a fantasy draft and in the off season he was a free agent. I tried to resign him but he didn't want to come back because of frequency of team events. So i wated until the time came when you can sign free agents and i tried to resign james again and he came back to my team. But they said that he was concerned about the freuqency of team events. So, therefore if you don't resign him during the resigning period you can usually resign players when it comes to signing free agents, it always works for me. But maybe you have a salary cap problem, maybe you can also try to sign your player to the minimum. I also found that when you either make it to the conference finals or the nba championship you can resign all of your players. Hope this helps.

cook and walton have * next to their money they are asking. that means that they qualify for a veterans exception. you can sign them.
the rest are un-resignable

they are un-resignable, just like he said.
but i didn't understand what the * stands for until now so thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you can always re-sign your own free-agents if they want to, even if it means going way above the salary cap? If that's true, then what do you mean by they are unresignable?

07 is different. i remember in 06 that you could re-sign anyone you wanted. but on 07 they need to have the qualifying veterans exception. i think it is stupid....

don't B17CH t_h about not being able to resign players, its part of managing your dynasty

I still believe you can re-sign your players even if you are over the cap. I think you answered your own question when you said he was concerned about the team events frequency. that's probably why he didn't want to re-sign.
While we are on the subject, Is it possible to sign more than one player to a mid-level-exception contract?

I don't think we can split the MLE in 07, at least I haven't seen a way of doing it.
