Here's an outtake from the EA support page:
"Check if virtual cd-rom drives are in use on the computer. If your computer has virtual cd-rom drives in use, you will need to have them disabled. These virtual cd-rom drives may be affecting the accessibility of the game discs. Depending on which program you have installed, you would either have to go into the program's options or the program's taskbar icon to disable the virtual drives. Please refer to the program's user documentation on how to disable virtual cd-rom drives if you are unsure of how to complete this process. If your computer has these programs installed, you might have a virtual cd-rom drive: 1. Virtual CD Daemon 2. Alcohol 3. Fantom 4. Easy CD Creator 5. CDR-Win5 6. Nero Burning ROM Drivespeed."

I recon it could also be a problem with the actual disk, like if it's been scratched or something like that. If the above don't work, then you could always go to the store and get it replaces for a new one and see if that works instead just in case..

here's my specs on my laptop:

winxp
256 RAM
Intel(R) Celeron(R) 1.50GHz
16 MB NVIDIA GEFORCE 2 GO
DirectX 9.0c

these specs works for me in NBA LIVE 2005 with these settings:

Resolution:800x600x32
V-sync, Lighting, Reflections,Triple Buffer:OFF(though i already played with the lighting ON with the help of gualberts patch)
crowd animation:ON
texture filter:BILLINEAR
Player Detail & Bench Players:HIGH
Environment:MAXIMUM

NBA LIVE 2005 works fine with me but not so smoothe like with higher specs..
the only problem i had is when i play in miami's court, the game is kinda crappy but you can get used to it after a while..!I don't know if you believe me or not but wat i'm saying is true.!!NBA LIVE 2005 WORKS FINE WITH MY SPECS..

My problem right now is whether i can play nba live 06 or not with the same specs. i mean the required is 32 mb, same with 2005 so i guess i wouldn't have any problems....or maybe i do???? i dunno..?

so i'm asking those laptop users how much it cost to upgrade my graphics card.!is it possible to just connect an external graphics card at the back of my laptop or buy a new one? i'm still a newbie to this kinda stuff so i really appreciate your help!!!

@coolmac :oops:

Size of the memory doesn't really matter as much as you think. Stupid people like Dell keep on convincing you that "The higher the mb the better the card..". Well no, a 128mb 6600GT is better than a 256mb 6600.
