Game 3 – NBA Finals : New York Knicks vs. Dallas Mavericks ( Dallas leads 2-0 )

The NBA Finals switched to New York and the Garden for games 3,4 and hopefully 5. This time around it was the Knicks who dominated their opponents at home, crushing the Mavs with big baskets and exceptional team play. Lamar Odom was inspirational, and Tim Thomas was following suit, despite a minor Achilles injury he suffered during the 2nd quarter. Nowitzki and Finley were shut out by the combined defensive efforts of Crawford, Houston, and Fisher, while in this occasion Magloire out-rebounded Dampier 14 to 9.


Result: New York wins it easily 108-86 and reduces the deficit to 2-1.







Game 4 – NBA Finals : New York Knicks vs. Dallas Mavericks (Dallas Leads 2-1)

This one was as close as it could get. The Mavericks were constantly ahead with a small margin, led by Finley’s shooting and Terry’s passing. The Knicks were keeping pace mainly due to the many offensive rebounds they were managing to grab. In the 4th period of the contest, New York mounted a 10-2 run that gave them the lead for the first time in the entire game, and from then on it turned into a thriller. Tim Thomas sore Achilles led to him being benched, with Houston moving at SF, Crawford at SG and Derek Fisher coming off the bench to man the point. D-Fish’s legendary playoff experience came into play once more, as the 6’1” guard managed to add 10 points, 3 assists and 3 steals to his stats in only 8 minutes during the 4th. In the free throw contest that ensued, Houston was calm and made every last one of his attempts. JC and Houston led New York offensively with 26 points apiece.



Result: The Knicks win this heartbreaker 115-108 and tie the Finals series 2-2.

Game 5 – NBA Finals : New York Knicks vs. Dallas Mavericks (Series tied 2-2)

In a game that could have put the Knicks in the driver’s seat of the series, they came out short and surrendered the win to far more determined Dallas team who came for the 3rd victory and convincingly achieved it. The man behind their success was none of the starters, it was Keith Van Horn, who scored 31 points in 31 minutes, leading the Mavericks in the second half. Dampier got Magloire’s number, and JC’s efforts in the offensive end were not enough to get New York the win.

Result: Dallas wins 89 – 101 at the Garden, is now leading the Finals 3-2, and needs only one mere W in the last 2 games in Dallas to get the crown.

It's tough, but we've battled against all odds so far ... one game at a time... we've already played 100 game this season, the boys are tired but they're going to go down fighting, at least...

Game 6–NBA Finals : Dallas Mavericks vs. New York Knicks (Dallas leads 3-2)

The Knicks are STILL ALIVE. Nobody expected them to have much chance to win game 6, after a disappointing game 5 and after 2 consecutive 7 game series weighing heavily upon their player’s legs. But still, New York not only won in Dallas, they won convincingly. JC and Houston were unstoppable, Magloire took his revenge on Dampier in the rebounding battle, and Tim Thomas put on a moving performance playing virtually on one leg. Nowitzki’s 37 points did not make any difference in the end, considering the good D New York played on everyone of his teammates.

Result: The Knicks get a convincing 110 – 122 win in Dallas, tie the series at 3-3, and send the Finals to a deciding game 7.

Game 7 – NBA Finals : Dallas Mavericks vs. New York Knicks (Series tied 3-3)

So close … so close … so close…. I am at a loss for words considering how near we were to being NBA champions after more than 30 years of drought… so close… so close… we were a few minutes and a few better game decisions away from winning game 7 and the title with it… so close … so close… It was the epitome of what a game 7 of the NBA Finals should be: Fast paced action, high scoreline in the 100s , drama, thrill, anxiety, liberation, victory , defeat. In one of the greatest Finals series of all times, and in one of the greatest Finals’ games of history, the Mavericks barely managed to edge out the Knicks in the end and claim the O’Brien Trophy as their own for the 04/05 season. It went down to the wire, with almost superhuman performances from Nowitzki ( 29 pts – 10 rebs), Finley ( 23 pts), Terry ( 7ast) , Alan Henderson ( 14 pts – 9 rebs, all in the 4th quarter) . New York had its share of heroes too, with the once more one-legged Tim Thomas playing his heart out for 28 pts and 10 rebounds. JC was the consummate leader with 13 assists, and Allan Houston scored 20 after having played 107 total games this season at the age of 33. In the final minutes, offensive rebounding and good defense for the Mavs led them to victory and the title. Congratulations to the Mavs, but congratulations also to a New York team who fought with everything they had and then some, to reach farther than anyone predicted. Here’s to the KNICKS…




Result: The Dallas Mavericks win this exciting game 119 – 110, make it 4-3, and bring the NBA trophy to Dallas… Congratulations once more…

WOW, looks like the Knicks couldn't pull the upset against Dallas. They just have a powerful offense and it's too hard to stop at times especially in the clutch. The only good thing that came out of this was me winning the predictions

It was a fine playoff run, even though we missed out on the title in just the last minutes of the 107th game of the 04/05. Allan Houston was the true leader in the locker room and on the court , despite being touted by some as ‘finished’ when the season was starting and he was predicted to be stuck on the bench behind Crawford and Marbury. Marbury’s trade to the Lakers for Odom really opened up space for him and let him be the Allan Houston of old, averaging about 20ppg. He’s 33 going into 34 the next season, so this might have been his last chance for a title, but knowing his character I believe he’s going to bring the same effort on the court up until his contract expires. Many Props to Allan Houston, then…
