I ain't a rap expert or anything but Changes is one of my favorite rap songs. I think you have the lyrics wrong. Doesn't it go "You see the old way wasn't working so it's on us to do what we gogta do to survive"?

Actually, I just looked on azlyrics.com and they have the same thing. And I just listened to the song, it sounds like old way. So back up fool, Riot just corrected yo azz.
