Purchase team offline - Mygm 2k16

Are you able to purchase the nba team while offline mode during NBA MyGm 2k16? I've seen videos of people doing it online, but I don't see the option since MyGm save is offline. Any help would be nice, thanks.

How did you end up with an offline MyGM save?

Because I was without internet when I first played it, do you know if you can purchase the team offline or no?

I'm guessing not, if there's no alternative functionality to do so in an offline save. It sounds like it's VC only.
