Nobody was able to stop Posey as he went off for 24 pts in the game

James Posey was a steal for Jerry West and the Memphis Grizzlies last off-season as they signed him for the MLE. We all knew his defense was an A+, but later on he showed signs of offensive power. He developed a solid three point shot and also could run in a fastbreak like a deer. "Posey is going to be one of our top 2 main options this upcoming season. We believe his offense is just as top notch as his defense," Assistant Tony Barone said during training camp.

Well Posey showed signs in the first game of the season when he scored 18 to lead the Grizzlies to their first win of the season. Last night, Posey was the energizer bunny as he did everything to make his team win. He started off by shutting down Pierce and giving him 2 fouls in the 1st quarter that kept him out until midway through the 2nd. Then, he ran the break so well, that no one could catch up to him as he did whatever he wanted.

"His abilities are amazing as it seems like he is running 100 mph on fastbreaks. Nobody could not catch him as he was just passing players. Posey will be a star one day in this league," Pierce said. Posey's ability to open up the defense gave Gasol a chance to shine as he scored 18 pts and grabbed a season-high 17 rebs. Gasol earned Player of the Game honors for the 3rd straight game this season and is playing very tough in the paint.

Pierce was held to 7 pts in the game and had 4 fouls. In the 4th quarter the Grizzlies we're able to put in Dahntay Jones and Antonio Burks as they got playing time for the first time this season. Jones scored 5 pts in just 5 mins of play.

Memphis are on a 3-game winning streak and leads their division

Coming into the season, the Grizzlies we're underdogs. With teams like Phoenix, Houston and Denver improving their roster dramatically, many people thought the Grizzlies weren't going to make that much noise during the season like they did last season. It turns out that they we're wrong. Grizzlies own a 3-0 record and will face the Phoenix Suns tonight in the America West Arena. There is no doubt the Suns have improved their team by adding Steve Nash. "Nash is the type of PG you hate to guard, because he runs around all over the place and has so much energy," Hubie Brown said.

Nash averages just over 16 ppg and 6 apg for the Suns who have been struggling just like many of the other opponents Memphis has faced lately. "If they are struggling, we aren't going to let them come in and beat us without giving them a tough fight, " James Posey said.

The Suns have a solid group of young guys who like to run. They will match up with the Grizzlies running game tonight. "We know they love to run, but so do we and we aren't going to let that stop us from trying to win tonight," Stoudemire said.

The Grizzlies come in tonight's game being the only team to have 7 players or more scoring 9 ppg or higher.

Jason Williams vs. Steve Nash

The Grizzlies running game is more of a solid pace. Their floor general Jason Williams knows where to pass the ball on the break at all times. He only averages 1 turnover per contest and takes care of the ball alot better than last season. Nash runs the Suns very well too. He is a the type that can run and either penetrate to the goal or stop and shoot the jumper.

Amare Stoudemire was held to only 3 pts in last night's game

This was a game where the players came out and did what they had to do. There was a tremendous amount of defense in the game along with alot of fastbreaks. The game was close throughout, and it took a game winning desperation shot from Mike Miller to put the icing on the cake.

In the 4th quarter, Mike Miller had one of the best crunch time performances you will probably ever hear about this season. He started off by nailing a three point shot, 5 feet from behind the arc to tie the game up at 84-84 at the start of the 4th quarter. Late in the 4th quarter, with 1:08 remaining in the game, he made a baseline jumper to tie the game at 101-101.

Shawn Marion stepped in for the Suns and made a key running lay-up with 55 secs to give the Suns a 103-101 advantage. The Grizzlies went back to Mike Miller as he was fouled by Jake Voskhul on a jump shot that sent him to the line. Miller made both FT's and tied the game back up once again at 103-103. Amare Stoudemire, who had an off-night missed a hook shot for the Suns with 29.6 secs remaining in the game. Joe Johnson fouled Mike Miller and he went to the line again to shoot two FT's. He made two more key FT"s to give the Grizzlies a 2 point advantage. Joe Johnson came down and made a clutch 3 point shot with 15.8 secs left to give the Suns a 106-105 lead. After that, it was all Mike Miller. The Grizzlies set up an isolation play for Miller with the clock running down. Gasol set a pick for him and he released a perfect jumpshot that rimmed out. Grizzlies center Erick Dampier was able to get 1 of his 5 offensive rebounds in the game with 2 seconds, and he passed it back out to Miller for him to shoot a desperation 18 foot jumper that went in as time expired.

"I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the shot. I was standing from the bench and I think I ran 100 MPH just so I could jump on top of Mike and celebrate. It was crazy," Bonzi Wells said.

Grizzlies radio announcer Don Poier was one of the many that went off after Miller's game-winning shot. Here is a script of what Poier said during the play: "Miller who has been hot in the 4th quarter has the ball for the final shot. The Grizzlies set up an isolation play for him and Gasol sets a pick. Miller comes off the screen to shoot the open jumper and its no good! DAMPIER GETS THE OFF. REBOUND AND HE PASSES IT BACK OUT TO MILLER FOR THE GAME AND MILLER NAILS IT!!!!!!!!!!! WITH TIME EXPIRING!!! OH MY! OH MY! SOMEONE GET ME A BREATHING MACHINE!"

It was a great shot alright. The Phoenix crowd actually boo'ed their fellow team off the court as they we're frustrated along with the Phoenix players after that shot. "It's a terrible feeling and after we lost 4 straight, we had the chance to break that losing streak and we couldn't because of a lucky shot," Marion said.

The Grizzlies will face the Suns once again before they take their 3 day break after playing 5 games in 5 nights.

5 Night Stand Ends Tonight

Grizzlies get to rest 3 days after tonight's game

If giving the Grizzlies rest will make them startl osing then the NBA should've added more games to their schedule. The Grizzlies are an amazing 4-0, after playing 4 games in 4 night.s Tonight will be the last back-to-back game for the Grizzlies as they play host to the Phoenix Suns. "Right now, I'm not thinking about rest. As a team, we need to win this last game then we can sit back and relax for a few days. We still have another game, so our minds shouldn't be on resting right now," PG Jason Williams said.

The Grizzlies come into tonight's game defeating the Suns last night in a thrilling game. Mike Miller's shot with time expiring was one of the best shots in Grizzlies history. "I just threw the ball up twoards the basket so I could get it off in time and it went in. It felt like my heart was about to jump out after the excitement of that shot," Miller said. Speaking of excitement and hearts popping out, Grizzlies radio announcer Don Poier was in complete shock after Miller made that shot. "That shot was just amazing and I tell you, if it happens again tonight, I would probably run out the arena naked," Poier said.

Let's hope that doesn't happen against Grizzlies ok? The Suns are looking to get a win in tonight's game after winning their season opener against the Hornets, then falling to 5 straight teams. The Sixers, Warriors, Bulls, Timberwolves and Grizzlies beat the Suns. "We have a great team on our hands, but we aren't connecting. We we're completely blown out in two of those games we lost which really put our spirits down. We didn't practice today because I felt we can get a little rest and hopefully put our minds back on track," Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni said.

Gasol was able to pour in 19 pts, 12 rebs and 2 blks against Stoudemire, while Stoudemire was held to 3 pts, grabbed 10 rebs and dished out a season-high 6 asts. It will be interesting to see how Stoudemire reacts in tonight's rematch against Gasol. Pau should have his hands full.

Yea I was on the edge because the Suns we're up by 8 late in the 3rd quarter and I had to find a go-to-guy that would help me come back because none of my players were hitting their shots. Miller averaging 16.5 ppg and 5.5 apg, so I don't know if that would be enough to get him an all-star spot, but most improved player could be one award for him. Jwill averaging 9.3 ppg and I use him to mainly find open shots for other players and take care of the ball. I will score with him if I really need him for a 3 or something. I will either update tomorrow or Friday. Most likely tomorrow though.

Steve Nash was the Player of the Game with 16 pts and 11 asts

Jason Williams said it first when he quoted,"After we play this game tonight, then we can think about the 3 days rest." Looks like most of the Grizzlies we're thinking about resting more than finishing out the game last night. "It was our first lost of the season and we know we aren't going to go undefeated throughout the year anyway. We will regroup within' our rest period and get back on track," Hubie Brown said.

The Grizzlies had very few bright spots in last night's game as the Suns beat them in almost every category. The Grizzlies onl shot 37/90 from the field and 6/20 from 3 point range. One of the biggest stat lines that came out was the Suns bench outscoring the Grizzlies bench 33-20. "Their bench completely outplayed and outhustled us. We could've played alot better," Grizzlies backup PG Troy Bell said.


Pau Gasol was one of the few bright spots for the Grizzlies as they lost 115-107 against the Suns

Pau Gasol continued his excellent play as he led the Grizzlies with 24 pts, 13 rebs, 2 blks and 2 stls. He did Amare Stoudemire just like he did him last game. Stoudemire was able to put up 9 pts, 4 rebs and had 5 fouls. "I see more grit in Pau when he plays now. Adding Dampier to the front-line really made him play alot harder and he uses strength that I thought he didn't even have," Miller said. Mike Miller and James Posey played well last night as both had 19 pts apiece. Miller added 8 rebs to his 19 pts. "We will come back with even a more focused attitude because we don't want to lose 2 straight games.

As the Grizzlies take 3 days off, they will not practice the first 2 days. "I believe this team deserves a rest. We went 4-1 in 5 games in 5 nights and that's unbelievable. We gave up in the last game, but it was a tremendous effort we put forward out there and they do deserve a 2 day rest," Coach Hubie said. After the Grizzlies take their 3 day rest period, they won't have to travel because they will play their next game at home against the New York Knicks.

The Grizzlies are back as they had a long 3 day rest

There has been a silent 3 days in Memphis, as there was no one to cheer for but the Memphis Tigers football team. The Grizzlies supporters missed their team as they took 3 days off after playing 5 games in 5 nights. "It's going to be great to go see them tonight. I have my Grizz gear ready," Memphis native Chris Hollin said.

The Grizzlies have their mindset on tonight's game, after losing their last game to the Phoenix Suns at home. "We hate that we lost a home game which should be a guarenteed victory for us on any night," Posey said. The New York Knicks are in town tonight and their midway through an 8 game road trip. They are 0-4 so far on the road trip. "This is a very important game for us tonight. It will be an all out war because we know the Grizzlies want to win just as bad as we do," Knicks forward Tim Thomas said.

Former Memphis Tiger standout, and Memphis native Penny Hardaway will return home tonight as a reserve for the Knicks. "It always feels good to come home so your family and friends can awtch you play," Penny said. Penny is averaging 7 ppg, 2.5 apg and 2.3 rpg for the Knicks off the bench.

The Knicks come in tonight's game on a 4 game losing streak. The Grizzlies are on a 1 game losing streak.

These two sharp shooters should light up the nets tonight. Both players are shooting well during hte season. Houston is shooting just over 42% from 3 point range. Miller is shooting just over 40% from 3 point range. Houston is averaging 14.3 ppg for the Knicks, while Miller averages 17 ppg for Memphis.

A Big Error Cost the Grizzlies the Game

Marbury's game-winner gives the Grizzlies their 2nd straight loss

This game was very tight from start til' the end. The Grizzlies weren't able to pull away from the Knicks as the Knicks kept making defensive stops to keep the game close. The New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury was the hero for the Knicks in this game as he was able to lead the Knicks to victory.

Late in the 4th quarter, Allan Houston shot a 3 pointer to pull the Knicks within' 1 point with 39.9 seconds left. The Grizzlies then went to Erick Dampier who was playing very well against Kurt Thomas. Dampier missed a leaner in the paint with 28.4 seconds left, and the Knicks didn't hesitate to call a timeout. The Knicks set up another play for Houston as he shot another 3 point shot, but he missed it. Dampier was able to grab the rebound and was fouled. He went to the free throw line and he makes the 1st free throw. Then, he misses the 2nd free throw to give the Knicks another chance at winning the game. The Knicks had no timeouts left, "We knew we had to advance the ball up quickly so I got a running start and was able to get up the court quickly," Marbury said. After Marbury went upcourt, he passed the ball to Houston once again for him to make a free throw line leaner and he made it with 15.5 seconds left to tie the game at 102-102. The Grizzlies called a timeout to advance the ball upcourt. Jason Williams fed the ball inside to Gasol and Marbury came in to rip Gasol. Marbury broke loose to the basket and scored a game winning lay-up.


Miller's 15 points wasn't enough to conquer Marbury's game-winning layup

"That was one of the worse losses you can ever imagine. We had the chance to win the game off a game winning shot and then he just goes in to steal the ball and makes an uncontested lay-up as the time expires. It was horrible," Grizzlies back-up forward Bo Outlaw said.

"I didn't see him coming at all. As I turned the corner to try and get around Sweetney, he just came through my blind spot and the next thing I know he was laying the ball up. I couldn't believe I let the team down and hopefully we can come back and get a win after this devastating loss," Gasol said.

The fans at the FedEx Forum were all shocked as they left the arena angry. "There is nothing we can do, but come into the next game with a better attitude and win that game," James Posey said.

Grizzlies Are Losers At Home?

The Grizzlies have lost 2 straight home games

Whoever thought the Grizzlies first losing streak will be at home? The past six days, there have been talks about the Grizzlies home losing streak. "Its been tough the past few days. For us to start the season 4-0 then lose 2 straight doesn't feel good at all. We are going to win this game tonight, and that's a guarentee," James Posey said.

The Sacramento Kings come in tonight with the league's leading scorer. Peja Stojakovic is averaging 29 ppg and 7.6 rpg for the Kings. "He is having one hell of a year. He told me he worked all summer long and I can tell that he wasn't lying," Kings guard Doug Christie said.

Grizzlies team president of basketball operations hasn't been happy with the Grizzlies last few games. "It seems like everyone isn't giving a 100% effort. We are at home and we can't lose these many games at our own place because we have the advantage," Jerry West said.

At the Grizzlies team practice yesterday, they worked very hard and they had one of the toughest practices since the season started. "The entire team was hustling their butts off and I guarentee you will see completely different team tonight than what you seen the past few games," Assistant coach Tony Barone said.

Posey has another tough challenge ahead of him tonight as he faces off with the league's leading scorer. "It is my job to guard the best offensive player on the toher team and I'm a defensive-holic," Posey said.
