Year One Scouting Reports
Draft Strength: B+ | doesn’t have a special player but there are potentially good players, might produce two or three Allstars at best.
Brent Anderson | SG – Syracuse | 6’6” | 212 lbs | 20
Cocky, Arrogant, Overconfident and Un-Coachable. Those are the words that can describe Anderson. Suspended in the rest of the NCAA tournament after punching an official right in the middle of a game. But this kid is oozing with talent and potential. Arguably the best scorer in college averaging 27 points in 47% shooting, he can attack the basket or torch you from the outside. If it comes to scoring he can do it all. Questions about his attitude might cause him to fall into the draft and everyone is asking if he can make it to the league.
Strengths: Pure Scorer…Can create his own shot…Surprisingly has good vision and can find his teammates for an open shot…Good athleticism…Allstar potential…
Weaknesses: Attitude problem, Work ethic can be improve…Needs to be more dedicated in playing defense…Tends to force to score too much…
Devin Edwards | G – Maryland | 6’4” | 189 lbs | 20
Devin Edwards had quite a run in the NCAA tournament. Leading Maryland in the Sweet Sixteen, he was the team’s leading scorer (24 points) and passer (5 assists). He also scored a tournament high 47 points against Houston. His performances will surely improve his stock in the draft.
Strengths: Good basketball IQ…Good scorer…Has potential to play the point guard position…
Weaknesses: Needs to work on his defense…Prefers to play it slow pace…Not that athletic…Undersize for the shooting guard position…
Raymond Robertson | PF – Connecticut | 6’9” | 243 lbs | 20
Raymond has won the freshman player of the year and leading his team to Final Four. He averaged 22 points, 11 rebounds and 1 block per game this year. Have great winning attitude and a consistent player throughout this season. A sure top 5 player in the draft but he is a bit undersize in his position and might get a hard time battling with bigger opponents.
Strengths: Good basketball IQ…Good scorer in the paint…Rebounds well for his size…Occasionally blocks some shots…Often forces double teams…NBA ready…
Weaknesses: Needs to work on his conditioning and body strength…A bit slow running the floor…Undersize for power forward…Passing needs improvement especially on double team…
Danton Hemming | SF – France | 6’9” | 225 lbs | 22
Danton (pronounces as Dee-An-Ton) Hemming from France is an intriguing prospect. He has all the intangibles that he can be a good NBA player. With the rise of the French players in the league he is coming with great expectations. He has good basketball I.Q and finishes it strong like a real pro. Question is can he play his normal game in a much stronger and skill league.
Strengths: Good basketball IQ…Good Finisher…Not forcing a lot of plays…Plays within the system…
Weaknesses: Defense is average but can be better…Tends to coast around and doing nothing in the game…Labeled as a soft player…Not much room for improvement and role player at best…
Elton Hooper | F – Arizona | 6’10” | 232 lbs | 22
Elton Hooper the college player of the year. Dubbed as “Baby Magic” for his skills as a Point Forward, he averages 18 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists this year. He absolutely dominated the tournament this year. Although he is not that athletic compared to the players this year but with his basketball I.Q. he can get out of sticky situations.
Strengths: Good basketball IQ…Handles the ball well for his size…Has potential to be great…Unique basketball skills…
Weaknesses: Needs to work on strength…Tends to be laid back in the game…Not that athletic…He needs to be more aggressive when attacking…A tweener…
Lance Cross | G – BYU | 6’3” | 204 lbs | 21
Lance Cross aside from his awesome name he also has an awesome game. He was the nation’s second best scorer (behind Anderson) with 26 points per game and he also averages 4 assists per game. A dynamic scorer and regard as the best point guard this year. He can play both guard position but excels at scoring the most.
Strengths: Good scorer and can put up points in quickly…Has a point guard body but shooting guard mentality…Good athleticism… Above average man to man defense…
Weaknesses: Shot selection needs a lot of work…Looks lost when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands…Turnover prone…
Alexei Gianopoulos | SF – Greece | 6’7” | 197 lbs | 21
Alexei Gianopoulos was the tournament MVP playing with the Olympiacos at the Euroleague. Averaged 24 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals for the year. A very crafty player which almost can do it all at the court. Intriguing player and might be the next international star in the league.
Strengths: Decent basketball IQ…A crafty scorer…Has potential to be a good player…NBA ready…
Weaknesses: Defense needs a lot of work…Body strength needs a lot of improvement…Labeled as soft player…
Kevin Scott | PF – Georgia Tech | 6’10” | 252 lbs | 19
Kevin Scott is what the scouts love the most, has great athleticism and inside presence. He is the only player who Raymond Robertson struggled the most. Has good potential and might turn out to be something special via long shot, his game reminds almost everybody about “Dwight Howard”.
Strengths: Loves to dunk inside…Great athleticism…Nice shot blocking timing…Good potential…
Weaknesses: Offensively raw…Footwork needs a lot of work…Foul trouble prone…Turnover prone…
Akeem Austin | PF – Kentucky | 7’1” | 220 lbs | 21
Akeem Austin born in Nigeria, he has a long reach. He has thrived playing inside and can easily block shots. He was named the Defensive Player of the Year averaging 3 blocks and 9 rebounds per game. Has reached the Finals this year but fell short. His toughness is the main questionable aspect of his game.
Strengths: Has long reach…Easily blocks shot…Has potential to be better…Nice soft touch offensively…
Weaknesses: Too much laid back in the game…Tends to be pushed around and needs to improve his frame and body strength…Has only played three years of basketball…
Andre Quinn | SG – Kansas | 6’6” | 210 lbs | 20
Andre Quinn in just his sophomore has led his team to the NCAA title. He averages 24 points, 3 assists and 2 steals in the Final Four. A good scorer and plays within the system, but he can still improve his game as he matures. He is not afraid on hitting the big shots when the game is on the line.
Strengths: Good scorer and can do it in a lot of ways…He plays with a lot of heart and emotions…Good athleticism… Above average man to man defense…
Weaknesses: Decision making needs to improve… Post defense is one of his weaknesses and needs to improve…Confident on his skills and sometimes forcing the issue too much…
Prince Harper | SG – Auburn | 6’7” | 215 lbs | 18
Harper is the youngest prospect in the draft. With his raw talent alone he has the potential be a good player. He got good mid-range game and sometimes plays the game intelligently. He has saw limited playing time in Auburn but has really show glimpse of potential but it scouts said that another year in college might do him good.
Strengths: Potential potential potential…He is very young and has more room than any prospect to grow…Has decent athleticism… mid-range game is more polish than any prospect…
Weaknesses: Relies on raw talent the most…Decision making can be improve…Due to limited playing time his game is still unknown to many…
Malcolm Wood | C – Minnesota | 7’1” | 260 lbs | 19
Malcolm Wood is the only decent center that can be talk about in this draft class. He is only 19 years old so there is a lot of room to improve. Pretty raw offensively but has good defensive instincts. He is a definitely a project to the team he will be going.
Strengths: Has good body strength…Can defend well…Great size…Good potential to be a decent player…Sets the pick better than anyone…
Weaknesses: Foul trouble prone…Raw offensively…Footwork needs a lot of work…
