Family Guy Thread (Ladies and Gentleman, Mr Conway Twitty!)

It's funny, but somehow they've made Brian somewhat likeable again. It helps that I had the opposite reaction to Quagmire's tirade against him earlier in the season to most people, but as Quagmire was beating the hell out of him in the latest episode I couldn't help but think "Wait, what did Brian do that was so wrong?" (aside from the obvious beastiality element we're supposed to ignore). I know, I know, it's Family Guy and you're not supposed to think about it but when they actually try and have a story with some kind of character development and the like, I can't help it. Like I said, somehow they've redeemed Brian, for me at least. I've got to give them some credit for that. On a better show, perhaps Quagmire's hypocrisy and whatnot would've been exposed and he would've been called on it, but Family Guy's version of "I fucked your father" *slams door* worked pretty well too.

As for the rest of the episode, I thought it picked up about halfway through. I'll admit to laughing at the vomit gag, it probably went about five or ten seconds too long but as far as drawn out jokes go it actually worked. I've also got to give them credit for not having Quagmire hook up with his father because I really thought they'd go that route for a second there. It was...acceptable.

I agree, I didn't like last week's episode that much but this one was pretty good. The plot itself almost sounds like something that South Park would come up with, but I thought they did a fairly good job with it.

Definitely, fun plot and some good jokes. Best of all, they kept the "trying to be funny because it's long and drawn out, but is just painful" jokes to a minimum. Notably, Stewie, Meg and Brian didn't appear.

Yup, that's a welcome change. Road trips with Peter, Quagmire and Joe sound like much more fun to me anyway.

Just watched the Empire Strikes Back parody.

The severe lacking of herbert made this a much better parody than Blue Harvest. A little too self referential at times as usual, but I have to admit I was amused: which is more than I can say about most episodes lately.

I think at this point i just still feel betrayed that herbert was obi wan over pretty much any other character. His joke was old after the first episode he appeared and an entire star wars parody with him an integral part rubbed me the wrong way.

Peter's Dad? they even had a ghost form of him ready.

Perhaps, but there's no prominent running gag with him and Chris. The casting made sense in that respect and effectively skewed the relationship of Obi Wan and Luke in typical Family Guy fashion.

I watched it last night and I'm going to agree with Andrew. Blue Harvest was much better just because this one just made a joke about something every 3 seconds or so...whereas Blue Harvest still had jokes, just more subtle jokes I guess.

Blue Harvest kinda felt like I was watching the movie a bit whereas this just felt like a straight on parody.

Wasn't really much to complain about this episode, solid plot and few cutaways. As people have said, it wasn't your "typical" episode which made it so enjoyable. Few random cutaways, solid plot, didn't have much of a problem with it. I do wonder who will anchor the news though

It was alright, but for me less enjoyable than their hour long Star Wars episodes for example. A few good jokes here and there, but not exactly hilarious stuff all around.

I liked it, it was a pretty solid mystery and it made me laugh as well, which often hasn't been the case in recent seasons. It goes to show what the Family writing staff can do when they don't just spend an episode bashing things they don't like and getting too carried away with the cutaways. Of course, I'm expecting it'll be back to business as usual when the "normal" episodes begin, but I think episodes like this demonstrate that they do have a sense of humour, I just wish they'd make better use of it more often.

Liked this week's offering as well. Cutting down on the cutaways and jokes where they go overboard bashing something/someone has been for the best. They've done so much of that in recent years and for me it's become so off-putting that it's refreshing to see them sticking to the twisted humour and punchier jokes. Not a bad story either, typical Brian stuff but I liked how he was called out on it.

I watched this one special just because Rush was on it. (I couldn't watch Sunday, but banked American Dad because I have to, this one because of Rush, and Simpsons and Cleveland to keep up my hate.) I love that him and James Woods do Family Guy despite being completely opposed to Seth and the entire writers political views, and I also respect Seth and his team more that they can bring these guys on and have tons of fun with them. Of course they are "economic conservatives" which is just code for liberal/libertarian and like Kelsey Grammer thus have no problem poking fun at themselves, their public persona, nor SoCon crap and yeah, they do favorable stories, but still. Not just having the character Rush on, but having him voice, and including him in a story is going farther than they ever needed to for most viewers.

Nice to reference the season premiere though, I've heard they won't be back all season at least. Also awesome reference to the prior episode where Lois worked at Fox News. Also, Stan. And Sons of Tuscon. (Which I think I started to like only because American Dad was gone.)

Of course, at the core I still can't believe Rush did this or the Star Wars episode. That one clip was really funny, this whole guesting was just brilliant. Rush is hilarious in this, I doubt many Family Guy "fans" will realize he was almost entirely parodying himself but he was still being hott though. The song was great. The whole last third was brilliant. And the ending: :lol

I loved this episode, and now I find most Animation Domination compatriots hate it and were mad they even let Rush voice or make fun of himself. I guess it's nowhere near as funny if you don't know the real Rush or aren't actually open to people being funny who you disagree with. (All my years of enjoying the Daily Show and Colbert Report destroyed ) Then again, these same people were ROTFLMAO over Obama on Cleveland last week, and there was nothing I could tell was even funny about it, even if you were were an authoritarian socialist from Kenya.
