On paper, the Pistons looks like they will have an easy first round task against Indiana, but don't count the Pacers just yet. They have young up-and-coming stars at their disposal like Mike Dunleavy and Danny Granger who could light it up from anywhere on the floor plus include a healthy Jermaine O'Neal into the mix, and this sure is a dangerous team. But I still believe that Detroit will advance to the next round. I don't think Chauncey Billups and the crew are planning on an early vacation
Cleveland needs to get their acts together if they want to advance to the next round. The Bulls have all the tools to stage an upset and they have proven that as they beat Cleveland 3 out of 4 times this season. Both Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon have been sensational playing against the Cavs and they would try to continue that this postseason. But with the way LeBron James and his teammates have been playing the past four games, it looks like momentum is definitely on their side.
In what could be the biggest surprise of the season, the Charlotte Bobcats qualified for the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. And not only that, they also clinched home court at least in the first round. The addition of Jason Richardson and the emergence of Gerald Wallace has energized the Bobcats all season long. Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic will be playing without their all-star forward Rashard Lewis, who is still out with a torn achilles tendon. Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu needs to do a little bit more for them to have a chance of winning this series.
The Celtics are playing at a very high level as they went on to win the Atlantic Division and was one win away from taking the best record in the East away from the Pistons. The Big Three of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce will go toe-to-toe with Washington's trio of Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison. Boston have the edge experience wise but we all know how pesky and tough the Wizards can be, judging from their past postseason appearances. This will surely be an exciting series full of drama and intense plays.
The Suns may have clinched home court throughout the postseason but maybe facing a tough challenge against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. LA has won all four meetings against Phoenix with an average winning margin of 15.5 points. Steve Nash and company needs to figure out how to beat the Lakers or they could kiss their title hopes goodbye. Shaquille O'Neal has said that they are the best team in the league and what better way to prove it, than by beating your arch rivals.
In a battle between division rivals, the Utah Jazz hopes to avenge losing the Northwest title by knocking the Nuggets out of title contention. Utah has dominated the season series, losing the first game via an 18-point blowout at Denver but turned it around by winning the next three meetings. Meanwhile, Denver recently got Carmelo Anthony back from a broken nose which caused him to miss a month of action. He needs to get his timing back if he wants to get the Nuggets out of the first round, a feat he has yet to achieve in his young career.
The Spurs' first task on their way to defending their championship will be against a tough LA CLippers team. San Antonio will once again rely on the trio of Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan, to reach the NBA's mountain top. But a healthy and rejuvenated Clippers team are blocking their way. Duncan will face-off against Elton Brand, who is an all-star caliber player as long as he stays healthy. Meanwhile, first time all-star Corey Maggette will try to continue his magnificent season by trying to dethrone the defending champs.
Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs looks to redeem themselves after a disappointing first round exit at the hands of the 8th seed Warriors. The Mavs since then hired the services of veteran leader Jason Kidd to get them to the promised land and forget last year's heartbreak. This time they will face a surprise playoff team in the Sacramento Kings. The Kings will try to stage a huge upset behind their young star Kevin Martin and veterans Brad Miller and Ron Artest.
