Noah Graham/NBAE/Getty Images NEW YORK, May 9, 2008 – Kevin Durant of the Seattle SuperSonics and
Mike Conley of the Memphis Grizzlies headline a talented group of rookies named to the 2007-08 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Team, the NBA announced today. Durant, the only player unanimously voted to the 2007-08 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Team and winner of the 2007-08 T-Mobile Rookie of the year award, finished with 58. Conley, the 4th overall pick of the 2007 draft, received a total of 57 votes.
Rounding out the T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie First Team are Chicago’s
Joakim Noah (53 points), Portland’s
Greg Oden (48 points) and Houston’s
Luis Scola (43 points).
Drafted with the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, Durant averaged a rookie- and team-high 21.2 points – 6.7 points higher than any other rookie – to go along with 7.5 assists and 3.0 assists in 82 games (all starts). Durant was the only rookie to lead his team in four statistical categories, including points, assists, blocks and steals. He is the first SuperSonic player to win the award.
Durant was also named T-Mobile Western Conference Rookie of the Month for every month of the season (November-April). He represented the SuperSonics in the 2008 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam, finishing with 36 points.
On the other hand, Conley ranked second among rookies in both scoring (14.5 ppg) and assists (7.3 apg). Conley represented the Grizzlies in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam, finishing with 19 points, and four assists.
Among rookies, Noah ranked first in steals (1.74 spg). Oden finished second in both rebounds (10.1 rpg) and blocks (1.86 bpg) and Scola finished fourth in rebounding (8.5 rpg).
The T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team consists of
Al Horford of the Atlanta Hawks (38), Seattle’
Jeff Green (24), Boston’s
Glen Davis (23), Minnesota’s
Rudy Fernandez (22) and former D-League player,
Jamario Moon of the Toronto Raptors (18).
The voting panel consisted of the NBA’s 30 head coaches, who were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for first team votes and one for second team votes.
