Another Overtime Loss
Cleveland fought back from an 18-point deficit in the third quarter but ran out
of gas in the overtime period.
It was Miami’s relentless attack to the basket that earned them this win, as
they got 33 free throw shots compared to 10 of the Cavaliers.
In LeBron James’ second game back from an injury, he had a game-high
45 points to go along with 10 assists and five rebounds. While Delonte West
added 21 points and 4 steals.
“We needed this win,” said Dwyane Wade. “After losing our last two home
games, our fans wont be happy if we lost this one.”
Notes:
- Jason Williams went to the free throw line 12 times making 10 of them.
- Dikembe Mutombo suited up but did not play because of a bruised thigh.

The King Wins It for the Cavs
It would have been another long night for the Cavs but LeBron James had other
plans in his mind as he added another game winner to his highlight reel.
“When I missed the free throw I thought we were headed to another overtime, I
was fortunate to get the offensive rebound and I just used my strength to get a
shot off in time,” James explained.
Washington had the lead, 98-96 with 10.8 seconds left. LeBron James made
the basket plus the 6th foul from Caron Butler to tie it at 100 with 3.5 seconds
left. James missed the free throw but got the loose ball and made the tough lay
-up over Dominic McGuire to win the game.
The Cavaliers and Wizards have a lot of history between them dating back to
LeBron’s playoff debut in the 05-06 season.
Notes:
- Zydrunas Ilgauskas’ double-double streak ends at 5 games.
- This is LeBron James’ 4th game winner of the season.
- The Wizards have lost 6 of their last 10 games.

Cavaliers’ Strong Start Too Much for Suns
The score may not reflect it but the game was over as early as the first half as
the Cavaliers played some scrappy defense to force the Suns into turnovers.
As a team, the Cavs had 20 steals with nine coming from guard Delonte West.
“Our team played great defense tonight, everyone was helping each other out
and we were able to force turnovers,” coach Mike Brown said.
With a 21-point lead heading into the fourth, Brown elected to just sit his stars
and let the bench finish the game. The Suns then was able to trim down the lead
during garbage time.
Notes:
- Delonte West’s 9 steals is a career high.
- Steve Nash shot only 4-of-13 (31%) from the field.
- Dikembe Mutombo played after missing two games due to injury.
- Cleveland has swept the season series against the Suns, 2-0.

Struggling Blazers Surprise the Cavs
After a big win over the Lakers last Sunday, the 2-day rest might have
been too much for the Cavaliers. The young Portland team stunned the
unsuspecting Cavs, 101-92 at the Rose Garden on Wednesday night.
First overall pick Greg Oden led the way for the Blazers with a
dominating performance. He recorded a double-double with 23 points
and 14 boards. Travis Outlaw contributed 19 points and four rebounds.
But the upset should be credited to Brandon Roy despite being demoted
to a sixth man role this season. Roy scored all 12 of his points in the
fourth period to keep Cleveland at bay. He also had two crucial steals
late in the game to seal the victory.
“I’ll do anything the coaching staff wants me to do, whether I come off
the bench or start. I just want to play some basketball and win some
games,” Roy said.
LeBron James had 28 points, 7 rebounds and nine assists in a losing
effort. Zydrunas Ilgauskas grabbed a season-high 17 rebounds but
managed to score just 5 points. Gerald Green added 19 points on 8-of-
13 shooting.
Notes:
- Brandon Roy has started the game just 11 times this season.
- Michael Redd, who is nursing a sprained wrist played 4 minutes in the
first quarter and did not return. He will be put in the inactive list until
the arm has healed.

Cavs Finishes West-coast Trip with a Win
After losing last night against Portland, the Cavaliers got back on the
winning track by defeating the Seattle SuperSonics, 97-89.
Four starters of Cleveland were in double-digits, with LeBron James
leading the way with 25 points including 11 assists. Sasha Pavlovic,
who started for the second straight game, had 19 points and 3 steals.
“Seattle and Portland are very much alike, they are both young and
talented teams,” said Cleveland coach Mike Brown. “Give them a
couple more years to mature and they can be contenders in this league.”
Kevin Durant finished with 21points and 7 assists but turned the ball
over six times. Mickael Gelabale came off-the-bench to score 14 points
on 6-of-9 shooting.
The Sonics were without two of their starters, Nick Collison and rookie
Jeff Green who are both out with injuries, which will make it tougher for
these young team to win some games.
Notes:
- With this loss, Seattle is now on a 7-game losing slump.
- Michael Redd was placed in the inactive list while center Dwyane Jones
was reactivated.
