That's part of the official patch. They made it harder to back down opponents because anyone could backdown Shaq with Allen Iverson and get cheesy baskets inside. It's still possible to backdown opponents because I have done it, I just haven't figured out whether it is random or based on position or timing. The easy and cheap way is to increase the USER Strength attribute in the sliders and decrease the CPU Strength attribute, but then the CPU won't be able to back you down.

Once in the backdown dribble mode, rather than trying to move toward the basket, you move the left stick strait up(towards the monitor)regardless of the camera angle or relation between the player and the basket. You can only move towards or away from the basket, so make shure you are at a good angle before starting your backdown.

Now if only 2K would add a practice mode specificaly for low post moves, oh wait, there already is one, nevermind.
