PG domination solution

Wed Oct 18, 2006 7:03 am

I know there is a PG domination in the game.
But since I heard one of the reasons is because of the default team strategy,
I edit them from "Shooter A" to something else(depends on the team),
and I also change some of the team's offensive quick play options from guard orientated to those which involve passing to big men.
and the result did show some improvement.

For example, I play against the CPU using Toronto,
I changed their strategy to "scorer PF", and Bosh scored 13 points on me in the first half for 5/7 shooting.
Their PG TJ Ford has 10 points, along with 5 assists.

May be TJ Ford scores a bit more than in real life, but that's probably because I didn't play good defence and thus give him some easy basket.
Still, I found out if I limit PG penetration as much as possible, I would get a pretty good result to prevent PG domination.

When the PG wants to go past you, there is a new animation this year to show that your PG is "trying" to defend them. When this animation occurs, start to use the left analog to push the CPU PG to the sidelines. If your PG's speed is not too slow, there is a big chance that you can stop the
CPU's PG to penetrate. After 2 to 3 times, the CPU PG will eventually give up and pass to the other teammates. I got some decent results by playing good defence.

Just want to share some of my thoughts.

Thanks for any way to help this...every PG just torches me. I expect to give up 40 to every opponent's starting PG. Even Marcus Banks lit me up for 45 and 12. It is ridiculous, putting Kobe on him made no difference.

Running a zone D helps a bit but c'mon. Its just silly to give it up so bad to every PG!

sometimes I would let computer to help me defend the PG,
and I would use a big man to double team him if neccessary

no PG can score 30+ over me,
but I am only playing allstar though

i never thought to push them toward the side lines. but sum thing like that might just help me out

i try to block-off the driving lane as much a possible, but i still get lit up.

i don't wanna go in a change the other teams game plan, making them play how they should play is sumthing that needs to happen.

i hate when i play a team like houston or orlando, and they never use there big men for scoring, only for rebounding.

No big man has made any type of contribution for the cpu teams I've played.... if the PGs don't try to score, it's usually one of the swingmen... it gets annoying... especially when someone like Deron Williams shoots 18 times and Kirilenko shoots just 4 or 5...

Fri Oct 20, 2006 2:19 am

when i played indiana jermane oneal hit me 22 points and 20 rebounds. and when i played N.O. tyson chandler lit me 15 and 15.

it has not happened offen tho ( big men having points ).

i just tried out the stratgey and it worked. i played the bobcats and held the point gaurd to 13 points and 4 or 5 freethrow attempts.

mind you morrison, felton and brevin night were all on the inj. list tho.

emeka had 20 points and 14 rebounds.

I actually had a thought - what view do you play on?

I bet it's easier to stay in front of the PG if you use a baseline view rather than a sideline.

Fri Oct 20, 2006 11:18 am

i use the press box view.

again, this supposedly new point guard domination problem is the same thing we had last year, and in 2005, and 2004, and 2003. The cure is the same thing it was last year, and in 2005, and 2004, and 2003. In fact, if anything it's easier to guard outside players this year because you don't automaticly back down from contact.

Set the Offense for the CPU, don't trust your CPU team mates to guard anyone, give the steal button a rest, use a better defensive guard than Steve Nash.

The only real solution for the PG issue it to Play Defense!
When i'm gaurding the opposing team's Pg, i stick on him like shiet. Sometimes, I'll use a little trash talk to get me going. Don't give up guys, i understand playing offense is fun and all but try to play some d, it's great.

Funny how there always has to be a couple of guys claiming that there's no issue regarding PG domination and that everyone who's complaining just can't defend...
I see your point guys, but don't tell us that Claxton or Kidd scored 50 points because we let our CPU teammate defend on them, I don't think that reflects the reality here.

I agree.

I havent got the game yet (still waiting for the patch), but judging from what I am seeing on this boards, I think this PG thing is really true.

I am a pretty good defender. In fact, I value defense more than offense. And in the past lives, I havent had any problems with PG domination.

However, if this PG thing is true, then I might not enjoy playing defense. I don't like to be stuck at 1 strategy. I play team defense, help defense, or 1-on-1, and it all depends on the situation. If with this year you have to concentrate your defense to the PG just so that he couldnt score 50, that's pretty lame.

EDIT: The CPU teammate has to at least be of some help, that's why they are there and that is why there is a thing called AI. Opposing PG scoring 30, 40, 50pts (always) is not acceptable.

I haven't had a real problem to be honest with the PG's scoring alot. I play good solid D , try not to 'steal' too much and just stay basket side of them. I play as the Bulls and Hinrich does a pretty solid job. There has been one game where I played against Washington and Arenas was a bit quicker and drove alot, when I could get basket side of him, he didn't do it.

I really think the answer is play some D.

yeah people should stop saying there is no problem because there is. its a primacy problem and ea better fix it. it gets tiring to play this game because of that stupid pg domination. it gets old real fast

Sat Oct 21, 2006 11:28 pm

been tryin to stop this PG domination, so i tried every stuff there is on live 07, I tried altering with the defensive matchups, and increase pressure to HIGH on the PG, guess what...it made the point guard pass more often, they were scoring a lot less now, like 50% down since i changed the pressure setting...hope this helps...it did good to me..maybe u guys can try it too.

Don't worry about it then , it is the exact same PG problem from the last three years. Realy, it's not any different.

Mon Oct 23, 2006 4:11 pm

I searched out that the opponent PG only dominates when I play bad defense on him. Just try to stand in front of him and he will pass.

My problem is that the superstars of the opponent simply destroy me. I played against Miami with my Denver Nuggets and Wade scored 51 points against my double teams. It was impossible to stop him and Shaq added 19 p and 27 rebounds ( ). Defense was helpless, even with to man in his face Wade hit every shoot (71%) from mid range.

Is there a silder or a strategy to lower the superstar effect?
