Crashing to Desktop whenever I try to play a game

I used to be able to play games fine, I thought I'd make a point of that. I then installed the SUM mod and, again, it seemed to work fine. However, after a while (I think I replaced the clevcourt.ebo so that the logos were on the correct side) whenever I played a game everything would be black.
I could still play games, mind, just everything - jerseys, skins, courts, balls, crowds, would be black. After a day or so, I was unable to play any games. I have since tried uninstalling the game and assorted mods, deleting all associated files and attempting to re-install the game, with the same outcome: a crash to desktop after a loading period to start a game.
My PC specs are:
Intel Pentium IV, 3.06GHz, 512MB RAM, either 128 or 256MB Graphics card - that is supported.
Can anybody help?
