Online Gameplay Settings

I play Live 07 online with a few mates.
With a couple of them the settings stay as default when they create.
When the other two create a game the gameplay settings change for some reason, eg the "long range shooting" and "medium range shooting" ratings in the "User Sliders" become lower, basically making the game harder.
They have all tried restoring defaults in their gameplay settings but this does not help.
Any ideas?
