LOL, what a good excuse by IGN.

Haha. Nice find.

NBA LIVE 07 PS2 REVIEW: 4.9 OUT OF 10!

Tue Oct 03, 2006 11:34 am

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/736/736894p1.html

My goodness thank goodness I bought NBA 2K7. What the hell are the guys working on Live doing?

fixed the title lol.

Tue Oct 03, 2006 11:38 am

Man I was just about to put this up. I am so happy someone talked about all the bugs and gave this game the score it should get. I also hope EA will see it and try to fix it.

Tue Oct 03, 2006 11:39 am

I was wondering the same thing myself. Gamespot has their review up though..i usually trust theirs more than ign. They gave it 6.5 while giving nba 2k7 8.2. Thats probably the biggest score disparaty of the two series on that site since the nba 2k series debut. I'm assuming that nba 2k7 might be a better game.

PS. Topics Merged

Ouuuuuuuch. That PS2 review hurts. Spends a lot of time ranting about things that can mostly be fixed by sliders, but everything is else is pretty accurate. That ought to help out the petition effort, but PS2 and XBox players are S.O.L.

A 4.5 from IGN? That is great news!

4.9, actually.

I didn't really need to post this, as anything below 6.0 is guaranteed garbage, but I don't think it really deserved this rating in any way.

Tue Oct 03, 2006 12:09 pm

Considering 2k7 only got a 8.3 or something...i'd say live definitly deserves that score.

Tue Oct 03, 2006 12:11 pm

Im glad to see this score, extremely glad actually :D Hopefully EA will get the clue, that with these kind of reviews their sales will take a hit.

Actually today has been a good news day, Donatello gets a encouraging email, and then Live gets a terrible report in an offical review (Y)

A game that fails to do cpu substitutions accurately in this day and age doesn't deserver anything higher than a 5 / 10 IMO. That's just complete incompetence.

Tue Oct 03, 2006 12:19 pm

I just don't see how 4.9 signifies anything. EA fixed almost every single bug from 06 (I'm not kidding, I notice a new thing every time I play) and added a TON of new animations, but screwed up several other things in the process.

If the review focused on the sub bug, the score would make a bit more sense, but a large portion of it is the author complaining about not being able to dunk enough. It becomes apparent that he doesn't know about the dunk and layup buttons being separated.

He also criticizes the jump shot timing, which anyone who has played the game can tell is nonsensical.

The kicker is that he suggests bumping the game speed up to 70 or 80, which ripped the last shred of credibility from this review in my eyes. I began to suspect that he was one of the people playing in those horrendous gameplay videos that were released on IGN.

EDIT: PS2 review is just a cheap edit of the 360 review. Nothing to see here, really.

They could rate Live in the negatives and i still wouldnt give a fuck what some reviewer who spent half an hr or so on the game thinks...Live has always been the better game since 2004 on the current gen except graphic wise..However Live07 is better both graphically and gameplaywise than 2K7..Sure the subbing bug ruins the fun but ive always done my substutions manually in all previous live versions which takes less than a minute to do anyway. Now i gotta sub out my starters and CPU at the same time and thats the only bug with this game on the xbox current gen. Im very pleased with what EA did this year, except somehow for some reason they didnt add the CPU and fatigue slider  .. This game is perfect on the xbox and thats what matters to me since i own the xbox console

Tue Oct 03, 2006 12:32 pm

Actually 4.9 is for PS2, for 360 they got 6.0:

And the guy who reviewed it didn't seem very professional, rather angry while writing the review which I wouldn't blame him for.

Here is one of his funny quotes: "You kind of get that sense when one of the achievements for the game is getting "four players to play on one console." Yep, that's definitely an achievement for you, because when you're finished playing the game, you probably won't have the same three friends anymore. It's visually appealing, but somewhat bankrupt in the gameplay department."

I could go on and on about some of the other issues for pages, but I'll leave you with one of the largest ones around: substitutions with the fatigue meter. Simply put, the game doesn't do it properly. With the exception of foul trouble (and even that is questionable at moments), the game will never substitute players based on their fatigue, which isn't realistic in the slightest bit. Nor is there a radically change in their gameplay, such as easily turning the ball over or putting up a ton of air balls. Some computer players can be completely exhausted and still annihilate your team with their shots. It's disappointing, it's flawed, and it, along with every other problem, has to be fixed for next year if this is even going to be anywhere close to a decent title.

:applaud: :applaud:

Great job by IGN on pointing out many of the problems. I applaud them for this review

Greatness, IGN just pwned EA (Y) Let's hope the other major gaming sites start being honestly critical about NBA Live 07 as well.

You've taken that completely out of context. The reason he suggested bumping the gamespeed up to 70 or 80 was to get rid of the horrible mid court lag on the ps2. He was making a point about the awful framerate.

The reader's average review score of 8 is disgusting to see. Is everyone a spastic who doesnt know a lick about basketball?

if u think live 07 is better then 2k7, ur out of ur mind, its a NO CONTEST, NO brainer, which ever way u look at it, live 07 doesnt compare to 2k7 no matter if you spend 1 hour or 20000 hours playing the games. I mean the game even looks horrible, worst player animations EVERRRRR and u can go on and on with the 10000 problems already mentioned on this board.

I AM VERY SURE we would be saying the same thing about Madden NFL 07 had EA not bought NFL exclusive  2k5 was sooo good that 2k7 Next Gen would have been like

Tue Oct 03, 2006 7:07 pm

What can i say the review brought a smile to my face. Now im soon going to go out and get a 360 and get 2k7.

A lot of people say they are too BIAS, but I don't think it's true. . . I'm gonna go trade my unopened game to someone who will take it!! and get 2k7

Sorry to hear some of you guys getting shafted by EA. It really does suck when that sort of thing happens. You could imagine to the dismay of many sports fans when it was announced that EA and the NFL made an exclusive contract.

Anyways, i'm surprised EA made such a horrible game, they are suppose to be leaders of the industry. I guess like all empires and kingdoms, it'll eventually go down.

i like football games more than basketball games, and i never really played an 2k bball games til 2k6. But let me tell ya, if you've never played 2k7 for the 360, it gave me the same kind of experience that nfl 2k5 gave to me when i first tried it.

But yea, i've never been the type that is loyal to a company, i guess that's why it was easier for me to look at game reviews and pick out the game that fits my tastes, which made my jump from madden to 2k5 so easily.

With that said, if you guys get past the yoke of boundage that EA has around you, and instead just be a sports gamer, the variety of games you can get are endless!

Wed Oct 04, 2006 11:26 am

I dont see why anybody here would defend EA from such harsh reviews. EA needed these reviews.

4.9 is the score they earned for delivering a virtually unplayable game.

Games are supposed to be fun. If they are so buggy that they cant be enjoyed, then what good are they? Despite any corrections that were made, and the little dynasty extras (which i appreciate), the game is worth crap all if its more frustrating than enjoyable.

And dont confuse frustrating with challenging. I dont mind a good game that provides a challenge. Games like Football Manager 06, Pro Evolution Soccer (Winning Eleven) require you to use your knowledge of football to win games. Those games are the best when it comes to actually simulating the sports on and off the field. Challenging yet fun.

NBA Live on the other hand is nothing like real basketball, and the only challenge it provides is getting over the bugs and finding something to enjoy in this mess of a game.

I really do hope the PC patchmakers can work their magic, and with a minor miracle or two, this game just might become playable. Good luck guys
