Patches are modifications for the game; new graphics, player faces, updated rosters, etc. The method of installation varies depending on the patch but generally graphics files are placed in a folder (sgsm) which the game checks before loading the default game files. Rosters are saved files which are placed in the My Documents\NBA Live 07\saves folder and can be loaded from the Load/Save menu.
Most updates are for the PC version only. When it comes to the console versions usually the only patches are roster updates, which are generally distributed by devices such as the Gameshark and Action Replay. Updates for the PC version are distributed in .zip (Winzip) or .rar (WinRAR) format to reduce the download size and save the user from having to download all the necessary files one by one. Some patches are distributed as self-extracting .exe files and have their own installation programs.
