I have been having the exact same problem. It only does it when I'm playing Dynasty mode after a game I go to press 'quit' and sometimes it takes me back to the main Dynasty screen and sometimes it takes me to the desktop with no error messages. I had NBA live 2005 and had no problems. If anyone could help that would be great.

Operating system: Windows XP Sp2
CPU: AMD Duron 800 MHz
Ram: 384MB SD
Graphics card: Gigabyte Radeon 9000 pro 64mb
Hard Drive: 20 gig - 8.1 gig free

Same here!

Postby nextnba on Fri Oct 07, 2005 3:05 pm

Same here too! Everytime I press the "quit" option in the game menu, instead of returning back to the main menu, it close the game down and brings me back to window. I can play the game fine and everything but after you finish a game, you have to press the "quit" option to bring you back to the main manue and it keeps shutting down the game and brings me to window. It's so annoying. Anyone got any suggestion? I have live 05 before and it worked fine as well. I already updated my drivers and that didn't help. Also Live 06 seem to take up 100% of my CPU usage. Is that normal? Here is my computer info.

Win XP
AMD Athlon Processor
1.20 GHz
768 MB of RAM
120 GB Hard Drive
Radeon 9200 Vido Card

No i'm afraid that didn't work. I find if you quit really quickly without looking at the player of the game etc sometimes it takes you to the dynasty screen.

this seems to be a common problem with some people. so far the only common thing i see in the specs is a rather low graphics card.

i haven't had the problem myself so far, but i'm only 3 games into my dynasty and i've got a x850xt graphic card.

I have a radeon 9200 128MB. This should be more than enough to play this game. The thing is the game plays fine. No lag or anything al all. Everything runs smoothly. The stupid game just keeps going to desktop when hitting "quit" instead of main menu. Stupid fucking game. Starting to really pist me off. I even went back to the store and exchange it for another one. Still same problem. Man, waisting too much time trying to fix this stupid problem!

I've got a feeling it's something to do with CPU. Mabey when CPU hits 100% it quits or something. People with high-end gaming computers don't seem to be having this problem. I'll check the CPU theory tommorow.

I don't think it's the CPU. The reason I say that is because when I do task manager, Live 06 takes like 97% and consistently makes the CPU usage 100%. If it were CPU, then it would crash the game very early and crashed at random or whenever CPU is at 100%, which is like all the time. The game doesn’t crash all the time or at random. I can play the game fine and everything. It’s not random crashes, it only crash when I press, “quit”. It’s almost like the “quit” thinks it’s suppose to shut the game down and bring you to desktop or there is something wrong with going from the game playing back to the main menu and the game somehow can’t go do it.

K. I did some checking and CPU usage only reads 100% when the game is main menu mode. In game playing mode, the CPU usage goes really low, like 1-5% only. But the question if it was CPU usage then why don't the game crash in main menu mode? It only crash when you're trying to go from game mode to main menu mode.

pointg, your cpu is even below the minimal system reqs, and nextnba, your's is pretty close too. the graphic cards of both of you are low end. i'm thinking it has something to do with being too close or below the absolute minimum to run the game.
we're gonna have to wait for some other people with the same problem, and see their specs so we can try to get some sort of general "flaw"-idea in your systems.

The game plays fine in all mode except "season" and "play now". I tested many times on "one on one", "practice", and even "dynasty" mode and the game does not crash to desktop at all. It did not crash once. It only crash in "play now" and "season mode". Is it possible that some files are not going through during installment or bad files? I unistall and reinstall the game several time and still has the same issue.

I tested the game on three different computers.

My primary computer
1.2 Ghz
768MB Ram
120 GB Hard drive
9200 Radeon 128MB

Result: crash to desktop.

My secondary computer
Has less Ghz, lest ram, less hard drive, crappier video card.
Result: Game crash to desktop

My laptop
1.79 Ghz
512 MB Ram
40 GB Hard Drive
Video card came with Laptop (not a very good one)
Result: Game does not crash to desktop

The only differences is the processor speed....Although it doesn't crash on the laptop, the game playing is no where as smooth as on my primary computer. However, the laptop, the CPU usage is not 100%, it's very low like in the 15-30% only. The other are 100% cpu usage...why is the game making my other computers cpu 100% and not in the laptop?

Well that proves it's the CPU that's the problem with our computers. The only reason I can see that the game would lag is the obvious bad graphics card in your laptop.

Everything else seems to be above minimum specs.

My primary computer meets the min. spec too. In fact I have more rams and hard drive and my video card is a lot better than the min. My processor speed is slight over the min. at 1.2 ghz w/ min. at 1.0Ghz. The game plays smoothly with no lag all except for the crashing to desktop. I even formated my hard drives and reinstall the game fresh and it still crashes to desktop. Ea Sports has given up and asked me to return the game because they can't resolve the issue either. I will give it some time before returning the game, if anyone got any suggestion, please let me know.

I do not want to play the game on my laptop as the video card quality is not that great and it the playing is not smooth even though it doesn't crash. Thanks.

nextnba, so far it seems that the crashing mostly occurs with the lower radeon 9XXX series. i dont think there's something you can do about it for now, maybe it gets fixed in a patch.

GOOD NEWS. FIX CRASH TO DESKTOP PROBLEM!

Postby nextnba on Thu Oct 13, 2005 7:49 am

K. Finally fixed the problem. It is an issue with the video driver. I had the most current updated driver for my Radeon 9200 from the ATI website. What I did was uninstall the driver from Add/remove program files. When window restarted, I just let XP reinstall the driver by itself and now the game no longer crash to desktop. It's working fine now.

When you do an "auto run" on the game, it allows you to press play with a few of other options. When you click on "tech support" it lets you know if your computer meets the min. requirement. With the newest driver my display driver read.

Redeon 9200

After I uninstall it and let XP reinstall the driver by itself, it now reads

Radeon 9200 LE Family (Microsoft Corporation)

Appearly Radeon 9200 LE Family (Microsoft Corporation) is the driver that works.

I'm thinking if it's ATI's Catalyst Control Center is the culprit here, because when I have certain video issues, I uninstall the Control Center and it works, using stand-alone ATI drivers. Ever since ATI came out w/ that crappy Control Center (w/c requires .NET framework) I had video issues w/ games.

There are other times though that when I use Microsoft compatible-tested drivers the game freaks out. I guess it's just a case to case basis...
Athlon XP 3200+
MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
Geil Dual Channel 768MB DDR RAM
Sapphire Radeon 9800 XT
RAID 0 on Seagate Barracuda 2x80GB SATA HDD
