Anyone given up on the game?

Okay, I figured this will annoy people who like the game but you might as well not read this then.

I've given up on Live 06. After making countless slider changes, the most effective play is still to play it inside, run around a bit and layup/dunk.

In English there's one word for "play", in my language there's two: one referring to kids playing and the other one to sports and competition. That's the problem with Live 06: you can play, but can't... PLAY, you know! I don't want to take jump shots because they are fun, I want to try and win games with the CPU forcing me into jumpers instead of layups!

I played a bit of Live 2005 but there's not much learning to do anymore in it. I wanted to do a dynasty in 06 but now I guess won't be doing it.

The game feels rushed from its Aug 4. roster cutoff all the way to its easy scoring and ridiculous online arcade action. Sadly, 2k6 also feels like a step backwards graphically and gameplay wise. So how is this possible, with a year in the works, both 2k and live get worse? I never thought I'd be doing live 05 today but....

anyway, if you play a team like Portland vs Charlotte offline with few superstar moves and few high rated players, the imbalances aren't that bad. It's almost as good as 05.

I hope xbox 360 delivers a brand new game.

'06 is back to '03 in multiplayer. Flip out the the 3 point arc and fire them up.

All I've done is played around with the sliders. With CPU blocks and steals at 100, the most effective way to get a basket is to run around a bit with your big man and make a layup.

my first impression of the game is that it has too many problems you cant just solve by " playing with sliders " , i play the PC version and what bothers me the most is that I have no post up game , every CPU team miss ends with offensive rebound , and there is no option to use the Superstar features without the analogue sticks .

Graphics are actually better then the 2005 version and for those who base their game on slashing / dunking / high flying , this game is good , but i look for more realistic gameplay .

Dynasty has some features missing that i expected , like three-way trades , trading draft picks , etc ....

basically , im not too happy with the release .

Three team trades were never on the cards for NBA Live 06, which is a shame but the fact remains they were never advertised as being in the game this year. Trading of draft picks is in NBA Live 06 however.

By saying trading draft picks , i actually meant trading on the Draft day itself .

Fair enough. I agree that it's a letdown, but on the other hand those features never were promised so it's not as though EA's had to leave out a feature we'd been looking forward to; that would be more of a kick in the teeth.

How would raising blocks and steals make the game more realistic? Haven't most sliders suggested lowering the block and steals??

Because the CPU plays no defence whatsoever!! It's not cool having the CPU make 20 blocks a game, but it's sure as hell not cool being able to score anytime you want!!!

People talking about trading? For me, it's hard to see why you would even need to make a single trade in this game where you can put the ball in the basket with any player!!

I guess some people are happy because they can re-enact NBA games, but when you're playing any game don't you try to win? In Live 06, you will win if you play it to your big man and run around a bit, because he will make 80% of his shots.

Never imagine the live series can became that dull coz first they removed
multi cam ,then auto replays and left just one angle for looking players
through out the whole game |-I

Live 06 is very disappointing... Live 05 was pretty hyped cuz it had the new all star weekend, but Live 06 just seems Live 05 with some additional features, and this took EA a year (N) The C.A.P is still crap, no custom teams, press box camera angle set only for 5 on 5 games and crappier than ever, removed the post up button (I have a dual analog gamepad, but I feel more comfortable using the keyboard), and made such a big deal of freestyle superstars. These are my main gripes :x

Another thing I noticed is that for the freestyle superstars "stoppers and "outside stoppers", is completely useless... freestyle shotblocking is same as regular shotblocking, etc etc... Live 06 in the end is better than Live 05, but it could've been much better had EA put in SOME effort.

I am gonna format my hard drive cuz my Xp got messed up lately and I dont realy know if I wanna install Live 06 again. Like you said I basically gave up on Live this year and no sliders tweaking can help. This year this game is plain boring and frustraiting for me to play it, those wacky rebounds almost got me to smash my controller. Didnt play 2k6 but Ive seen it and it sure looks sweat.

True...reminds me of what happened with Live 2005. I used to dunk every single time. In fact, I posted a thread just like this for Live 2005...that there were too many dunks..I haven't had that problem yet with Live 2006..but who knows. I usually prefer playing 2 vs computer or human vs human though.

Sadly, the AI in 2k6 is even more retarded I think...bleah. If 2k6 had a decent AI...it would've been a great game.

Although it's easy to score inside, I've faced a bit of a challenge with my slider tweaks and managed to make the game enjoyable. Have you played around with the on-ball physical defense? Makes a bit of a difference, imo.

I just got it today (I left for the weekend on Friday, and it didn't show up at the local Future Shop until Thursday) and it seems alright so far. I haven't been keeping up with any kind of news about the game ie. I still have no idea what this superstar modifier is supposed to make me do. But that's why I'm checking the forum out now. I played my first game on starter and was messing with the sliders throughout the game. The only thing I don't like so far is the still lacking ability to box out with effectiveness. It is riduculously hard (and was impossible in 05 to my knowledge) to make any lasting contact like the CPU will make with you. The boxing out is more of a 'hit 'em and hope they slow down for long enough' button. I might be able to find some suitable sliders though.

The mid-range game seems fine. Just run a pick and pull up, or jab around a bit when you've got a good matchup then explode forward and up. I'm trying not too worry about the things I can't change when I play. I just pretend there was some error that doesn't happen in Live but does in real ball. M'eh.

I think EA (& maybe SEGA as well) put most of their effort on the XB360 version so that they released the game in a rush.

I think EA don't give a shit about XBOX or PS2 and now all they care about is
"next generation consoles". Well i think they should start livin in the present not the future!

Bang, I think Live 2005 was a tougher game. I made some good sliders for it with CPU dunk/layup block and CPU double team effectiveness both at about 60. And instead of running around the key you actually needed to make a post up move.

Cyanide, with CPU on-ball physical defence OVER 40, you run towards the defender, bounce off him and you have space to make an easy basket, even with drop step at 0. When physical defence is under 40 you run towards them and they pretty much move out of the way.

With both CPU blocks at 50 and CPU on-ball physical defence at 75 it was suddenly a different game.

I realized that when the CPU makes a block, the ball always ends up in the hands of your player, thus making it an easy basket!! Also, if CPU interceptions are too high, the other four guys on your team will cut passes too easily.

I'll see how it works from here.

I keep my on-ball physical defense at 100

Yeah, conversely, if I make a block, the ball goes into the CPU's hands for an easy layup/dunk.

Maybe I should post my sliders sometime this week. Makes my games enjoyable. Superstar mode in 8 minute quarters, I can barely hit the 100 point mark with the Suns, but I'm still undefeated after 6 games so far, including topping the Spurs and Nuggets. It's fun to play, but's not challenging enough, mainly because Amare's dominating inside (but not too unstoppable with my slider tweaks).
