How do you do a hook shot?

Does anyone know how to consistantly do a hook shot? What button or combination of buttons can I use to do a hook shot? I push the shoot button near the basket and once in a while a hook will be used but other than that I can't find a way to do a hook whenever I want.

If you're backing down and press shoot, you should attempt a hook.

I try to back down and press shoot all the time, or usually the player just turns inward and attempt a short jumper. It's really frustrating.
