Upgrading Comp.

Postby 17seconds.from.game.seven on Sat Oct 15, 2005 10:47 pm

Hey everybody
I know i need to upgrade my computer before i want to consider playing NBA 06 on maximum settings. The thing is, i want to noe whether i should purchase RAM or a new Video Card. BUDGET: 300 bucks.

AMD Athlon +2600 2.13 Ghz
512 mb of RAM
Geforce 4 MX440 SE 128 mb. (plays like a 64 though)
120 GB hard drive
I do NOT have a PCI express slot..i think..

Maybe i should overhaul the system with a new motherboard, just for the PCI express slots, and a new processor, but that means that im going to definitly have some problems with startup. That, or i purchase a video card and/or a bit more RAM...

Any Help would be great.

The Ram is a reasonable amount, i have 512mb and it plays okay but my video card is not that good..... purchase a video card and ram... sell the old video card so you have a larger budget :?

You definately need a new graphics card.
And 1 GB of RAM is good for future gaming. (Y)

Moved to 06 Technical Issues

I got 512 ram and run the game on maximum with no problem at all.
I don't know that much about graphics card tho, so I can't tell you if you should get a better one or not. Hopefully one of the 'tech gurus' will...

512 is enough for running the game. you should check out a Nvidia 6600GT 256mb (agp), that is probably the best bang for the buck at the moment. You could go higher and buy an 6800GT but your cpu will be a bottleneck then.

Where are you from? If you look around you will find a 6600GT for less than $200 so you can even buy an extra 512mb of ram.

if you do so, please format your pc afterwards for best performance. Windows calculates its virtual memory during installation so its will be based upon 512 instead of 1024. A fresh start is always welcome after hardware upgrades. Good luck.

Im a Canadian soory, failed to mention that. 300$ CAN. So thats going to make quite a difference. But thanks all, great help. Thing is, how am i going to sell the video card without the driver discs and the manual. I purchased the rig wih the card installed, so i doubt anyone would want to buy a card they cant even install.

you dont need a manual or drivers to sell the card. windows XP has drivers for it, and then the buyer can just dl the newest.

btw, here's a good card for CAN:
