I'm so fucking ticked off at Sony. I didn't have any issues until after I downloaded this bullshit 4.40 update. Now some of my games are freezing. I'm not the only one with problems - I've seen many complaints online. Sony better patch this ASAP.

i dont know if it's related, but after a recent update, fifa 13 freezes when you select real madrid
Fri Mar 29, 2013 11:45 pm
I haven't experienced any freezes luckily with the new update. At least not with NBA 2K13, and it's the only game I play these days on PS3.
Sat Mar 30, 2013 7:20 pm
All I know is NBA 2k11 & GTA IV were running fine before Sony forced this bullshit update on my system. There better be a 4.41 on the way.

Which model do you own? Mine's ps3 slim 240gb. Having no prob with the new update so far.

This is actually a good question to ask. The pre-slim models of PS3's from my knowledge are known to break down easier than the slim models.

my roommate's slim ps3 has been freezing a lot lately, particularly on black ops 2

I have the original fat model, but I've seen complaints from owners of the newer, slim PS3s.
These Sony tech guys are full of shit. If my machine was working fine before the update, don't tell me it's a hardware issue. I'm not doing anything that's going to cost me money or (possibly) erase my files. I want a patch to fix this, and I want it now.

That is odd. But hard to imagine it's software problem if only handful of us are experiencing the problem.
Sat May 25, 2013 11:32 pm
If you go to the PSU sites, you'll see many complaints about 4.40 & 4.41, even from owners of slim PS3s.
Thanks to Sony, my PS3 is an expensive paperweight - the system won't recognise game discs. On the rare occasion it does, games freeze constantly. Sony won't even acknowledge a problem exists with their firmware. They've giving loyal customers the finger - well fuck them.
Sun May 26, 2013 12:35 am
have you called sony support?
Sun May 26, 2013 12:12 pm
Other gamers with the same problem say tech support is a joke, a waste of time. All they do is read from a script - doesn't solve the issues we're having.
Sun May 26, 2013 12:54 pm
well they were fantastic for me with the 3D TV, so you can either continue bitching to us about it, or actually try to get help instead of trusting some pissed off people on the Internet.

Any update to this? Will there be an update to fix it?

Lucky that I'm not getting the problem with my new slim PS3, guess with PS4 on the way they are putting all their resources first on that.

This helped me last night as I'm trying different things.
I logged off the PS network. And the 2K12 game was silky smooth once again.
If I need to do other stuff, like Netflix, I'll have to log back in. But that did the trick for me. So I kept the auto sign-in Off.
Try it, if you guys are having problems.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD FIRMWARE 4.45! PSU.com is getting complaints of bricked PS3s (they're having similar problems to mine after I downloaded 4.40). It's affecting PS3s with upgraded third-party HDDs, which is what I have. Supposedly Sony is working a patch - go to PSU.com for updates.

While everything that's come out about the upcoming consoles has me leaning towards the PlayStation 4, I have to admit stuff like this is troubling as I look to make the switch.

*looks at brand new 750GB HDD ready to go in my PS3*
hmm, good thing I decided to wait and watch the game last night...and realize I have PS+ with auto updates..I don't want to go downstairs
from Reddit
Tbomega:I get a blackscreen and also stuck at the ribbon when the system first starts up... I cannot get to the XMB and the system just hangs. This is apparently happening to people who have a 750GB Hard Drive in their System or a 1TB. (People who have upgraded their hard drive through their own means) I have a 1TB hard drive in mine.
Quick rundown:- No confirmation of if this is only affecting PS3s containing hard drives at or over 500GB in capacity. In fact there are reports that PS3s containing hard drives of lower capacities may also be affected.
- Fat or slim model doesn't seem to be a factor, both models have been reported to be affected by the glitch.
- Do NOT format your hard drive if you are affected by the glitch, as there may still be a chance of restoring your PS3 to proper functionality without doing so.
- If you still possess your original PS3 hard drive and reinstall it in an attempt to restore your PS3's functionality, do NOT download the firmware update again, otherwise you may simply render it dysfunctional as well.
- If you have PS+ and have automatic updates enabled, disable them ASAP. The option to do this should be found under System Settings.
- I sincerely hope this helps out anyone trying to get up to speed on the situation and any affected by this glitch.
Edit: Thanks for mentioning that D-Monstrosity! Updated this post (4th bullet point) with that advice.
(Repost from the PS3 subreddit post, thought it might help here too.)The firmware update v4.45 has reportedly been pulled (making v4.41 the current up to date firmware version), likely as a result of this glitch.
Update: Thanks to AriesK47:For those with bricked systems Tomorrow a patch should come out to fix this. All you need to do is download it to your USB drive and power up the PS3 in safe mode and install update from USB.
And Kyoutenshi:Step 1: Turn off the PLAYSTATION 3 by holding the Power button on the front of the unit till the Power light is red.
Step 2: Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, meaning the PLAYSTATION 3 is powering on. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep, indicating the video reset. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a third beep and the system will power off (Power light is red).
Step 3: Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, again for the PLAYSTATION 3 to power on. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At that point release the Power button. If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on the screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button."

Wed Jun 19, 2013 11:25 pm
I'm wondering if the patch will solve my PS3 problems.
