Article: EA Brand Tarnished

As for which series were falling short, Wilson singled out "dramatic swings" in the average PS2 review scores of some of the company's top franchises. The analyst's numbers show that Need for Speed's averaged score has dropped 5.8 points, and NBA Live shed 13.1 points over the last two years. He noted that reviews don't always correlate to sales, but they tend to mirror a game's quality, which can affect its retail fortunes.

The article doesnt say much about Live, but the comments at the bottom do.

I am really interested to see how EA handles this catastrophe known as the year 2006. The last game I actually enjoyed from EA was "Black" and since then they have just been putting out mediocre games with great plans and ideas, just poor excecution.

So what do you think EA will do different next video game season?

Nothing. They are still making a shit load of money off Live and Madden and all the other titles EA throws out there.

they´ll either make crappy games like they´ve been doing, maybe even more crappier since everyone seems to have realised that and keep buying their games, or they´ll really work hard and make decent changes(i dont think so)

they should just scrap everything and start again, rebuild in 2007

Last time an EA franchise did that we got NBA Live 2002.

Fri Dec 08, 2006 3:21 am

actually last time they did that we got NextGen Live 06, 2002 still used the 2001 engine I believe.

2003 used a new engine, and for 2005 we got a new engine as well.

Next Gen 06 was a complete rebuild and we know how good that engine is.

It obvious that they have decided to go with quantity over quality, the more games and the more range of games they make, they think people will buy, rather than doing the smart way and actually building a few solid and awesome games which get high ratings, that will make the company more respectful in the gaming world after this disaster year.

But i think the developers have develop a lazy streak where they dont feel they should impress the customers as much and dont think they should please them as much because hell EA is making loads of money anyway but they will make even more when they start developing games that actually work properly.

It might not be a lazy streak but an act of protest because the EA higher ups are putting unrealistic demands on them. It's kinda like what Disney cartoonists did, when they added that penis in The Little Mermaid and "sex" in the clouds of the Lion King in protest because they weren't getting paid enough.

I noticed that too. EA should pull themselves together after the disaster they came onto. I only play NBA Live under the EA Sports brand, so I have no idea if the other EA Sports games this year are as lame as Live.

The lion king thing actually spells the name of a special effects company, not spells sex. Also adding to that: Aladdin says "take off your clothes"

On another note: its been the last 2 weeks of school and i've been working my ass off so havent posted much and i currently have a test in an half hour on the brain, spinal cord, and every blood vessel of the body. I post my thoughts on EA's tarnished brand when i get back and have a free second

Also on the cover of the Atlantis cartoon movie, it says KKK on the sub ship thingy, and theres a spotlight ONLY on the black guy on the cover. Theres one other racist thing on it but i forget. Sorry for being off topic.

If any of you watched the VGA's (Video Game Awards), EA had four nominees in the best team sport category, and yet they still ended up losing to NBA 2k7. I think that says alot.

I'm pretty sure that they were only there by default.
