5. Red Hot Chili Peppers - One Hot Minute (probably their crappiest stuff to date, but it's interesting to hear how dramatically their sound changed from previous albums)

2. Dr Perry Cox
The brilliance of the Dr Cox character, both in the writing and John C. McGinley's acting is that it would be easy to simply make the character a rude, narcissistic, egotistical, sarcastic jerk without any redeeming qualities and still be funny. However, the character is much stronger given that he's also demonstrated a knowledge of when to be tough and when to be encouraging and generally does the right thing by other people (often without being coerced or threatened), making him a classic character that often seems like the bad guy but really isn't as bad as first impressions would have you believe. Combine that with some of the most hilarious lines on the show and you have one of the best characters on television, past or present.

Even though every RHCP fan and RHCP members themselves hate this album, it's one of my favorites and I prefer it a million times better than the last two albums which, in my opinion, completely suck. In fact, for me, RHCP died in 2000 after Californication was released.
A lot of great songs, despite being sadder, are included in One Hot Minute, most notably Aeroplane, My Friends and Warped, but also songs like Coffee Shop and Tearjerker.
I need to smack the shit out of you for besmirching Linkin Park and Beach Boys by putting them there with Pussycat Dolls...I at least can see the other two being on that level. But my advice, turn off the radio and listen to some albums, check out pet sounds for beach boys and any for linkin park (other than reanimation, it doesnt count)...the singles do mostly suck, but the albums are gold

1. Bart Simpson
As the series has developed The Simpsons has, for the most part, become more about Homer with more episodes based around his adventures, but when the series first started and was becoming a television powerhouse, it was all thanks to Bartmania. There have been characters who are wittier but you can't argue with success.

3. Homer Simpson
The Simpsons stayed strong after the focus moved from Bart to Homer, who can probably lay claim to a majority of the show's memorable lines. The character has even added to the English language as "D'oh" is now a word listed in the dictionary. At times the characterisation has been a bit shaky considering the person Homer Simpson was originally established as being, but a show doesn't run for 18 seasons and 400 episodes with a weak central character.
4. Al Bundy
Chauvinistic, boorish and politically incorrect, the Al Bundy character was a likeable loser who somehow redeemed himself through ultimate underdog status and hilariously dysfunctional family and lifestyle. Al Bundy's character can be summed up in three lines from the pilot episode.
Large Woman in Shoestore: We're leaving!
Kid: But I want a balloon!
Al: You've already got one, son.
5. Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce
Richard Hooker, the author of the M*A*S*H novels may have disliked Alan Alda's portrayal of a character he based on himself and Robert Altman may have hated the series that followed the movie he made, but Alda's Hawkeye Pierce remains perhaps the most popular character on one of the most successful series in the history of television.

I'd put your #2 through #5 in my top twenty. I actually found Cartman funnier when he was a little less of an evil mastermind and tended to get his comeuppence more often.

I personally loved By the Way. It is probably my favourite album of RHCP even if it did blend that sort of more "pop rock" or "mainstream" sound. Some of their more softer and emotional work on that album is extremely well done to me (Venice Queen, Mightnight, Dosed), even if it contrasts their funky bass slapping sound of previous albums.
Californication of the most recent stuff of RHCP is by far the best. You can actually tell songs apart on that album, unlike Stadium Arcadium.
Scoop wrote:I think that Cartman's funniest moments are when he picked on Kyle all of the time. I never really liked Cartman in the older episodes though, he seemed to get funnier as the show progressed.

See, that's the problem...that they blended into that pop crap and
started making songs based on what people liked at the moment. It shouldn't be like that, artists should make music thinking just about the music, not what people like.
I do agree with you on the fact that the "more softer, emotional work" on By The Way is really well done and I really like the songs you listed and some others like "Tear" and "This is the place", but I don't like the fact that the whole album was made focusing exclusively on John's guitar.
I like the previous albums because Flea shows he's one of the greatest bassists ever. Nowadays, the bass player is insignificant in most bands and for most of the people it's just someone who slaps four strings.
Flea showed the whole world what a bass guitar can do, and it just gets on my nerves that RHCP limits him like they did with the latest albums. I mean, they have the greatest active bass player in the world and they focus on guitar, just because 13-year old kids like it better and buy their albums.
RHCP survived without John Frusciante (1984-1989; 1992-1998) and produced one of their greatest albums IMO without him, but they wouldn't last a single second without Flea. That's what they have to understand.
Its_asdf wrote:Well, I guess by your standards their just incapable of making good music anymore, which is fine I guess. Not everyone is goning to like the same kind of music.
